oil leak...darn it!

tim eakins
I am new to the forum. NOT new to Honda,as I bought my first in 1963.
I have an unmolested (except form the exhaust system) K4,which has 4300 miles on it. I moved six years ago,and set the bike aside (behind a half-garage full of my loving daughters crap). So now...as of yesterday...I wish to get it cherried-up,somewhat on the cheap,I am afraid.I am just retired and have the time. However,I am NOT a mechanic, but am somewhat handy. As a kid almost 50 years ago,I did my own brake jobs,tune-ups,etc., with my 1955 Chevy. I am also smart enough to leave serious things to the professionals. So,with this preamble aside, here is where I am and advice I need:
Yesterday I bought, charged and installed a new battery from my local Honda dealer. I also bought supplies there to change oil & filter. This morning I swapped out the batteries, and the darned thing started pretty quickly. I let her run for about 4 mintes at idle while I ran to the bathroom. When I came back,I saw a puddle of oil under the bike and immediately shut her down. I sqeezed down to the floor and discovered the oil was coming from behind, and seemingly above, the oil pan.

So,the question is,is there a likely source/reason for my massive leak? What should I look for? Again,I want to do as much of this as possible myself. (I just finished reading for the third time, "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance"...so I got THAT going for/against me)!  But seriously, any thoughts on how to find/fix my leak would be really appreciated. Welcome to the forum. I would check the oil lines, for the leak. Was your firs Honda a 305 Dream/Hawk? I had a 305 Hawk a long time ago.

I sure wished! The 305 SuperHawk in red/silver was my second choice, to the 305 Scrambler in black/silver.
Unfortunately,my first bike was the small C-110 (5-hp),which cost me $325 new. It was my high school transportation, sometimes even in snow, to my job at my grandfathers gas station in Des Moines.

Then I rode a 1959 Norton for quite a while, until my stepfather sold it out from under me.
When in college,I stopped riding. About 6 years ago I saw a (nearly local) Ebay lisitng for a 1974 CB750 with just 4,000 miles on it. I bought it,but work issues caused me to set it aside...and it has been there for 6 years.
Behind my daughters pinball machine (can you keep this for me for a couple of months, dad)?

So I still want the 305 Scrambler, but this will be a fun project. No top-down restoration or anything like that. It is very clean...even still has much of the yellow bolt paint from the factory. But the original owner did scrap the factory pipes for drag pipes, and 6 years ago I bought factory fresh OEM correct pipes for it (yet to be installed).
Then I discovered the heat shields were not shipped with the pipes,so I'm out that much,I guess as the seller in Holland did not want to hear about the oversight 6 years later, and I can't say as I blame him.
Any,thanks for the tip. I just re-started...and no mopre oil leak. Weird.
