today i started up my freshly rebuilt/ repainted 1979 honda cb750f super sport.... oil light stayed on... tho bike seemed to be running great.... did a few checks tr5acing wires to oil sensor an all wires were good... so i went an bought a portable oil guage.. an found out i have no oil pressure at all... big problem... oil pressure is like blood threw veins... it the heart of the motor.... so i took out the pump an looked around an noticed there was no gear for oil pump gear to mesh with... low an behold it broke in half...causeing the oil pump not to spin an did not do any damage b/c the broken gear an dowel were in the oil pan..... just order a new oil pump drive gear.... an now i wait..... o yea i was able to get snap ring off the primary shaft so im pretty sure i can fix this with out tearing everything down once again... i just rebuilt it b/c the tranny seal went... i hope this is it im dieing to ride... got 4800 miles on in 5 months last year.... got 600 miles on this year.... bummed.... but happy i dont have to tear motor down.... i am new to this forum an this is my first post sorry bout the ramble but what a hell of a diagnoses
That is an extremely rare incident.
I would be worried what caused the oil pump gear to break in half.
I know it is 30 years old, but gears do not usually break.
