preparing gasket seating?

vingtsous
Hi guys!

my first time that deep in an engine.....

I'd like to know how to prepare the gasket seating before putting back the cylinder block...

Does the surface have to be shinning like new?
Polished?

What about scraping it with sand paper #800??

Any product i should use.....or not use?

I took the cylinder block and valve head at the machine shop for renewal...

See attached pictures..

Thanks!!

It's best to have the surface clean.....no risidual gasket material.
Use a scraper(carefully)to remove the heavy stuff.A medium(red) ScotchBrite pad will smooth out the surfaces good.
I like to finish it with a rag and acetone.

If the shop did a good job, just clean the surfaces with acetone.
