problems after adjusting fuel mixture

Kha
Started my bike up today after riding it yesterday and it was dying when revving up from idle. Ran fine with throttle and everything. Been reading about the problem and people saying that it's a sign of running rich. Today I let the bike warm up and turn the idle mixture screw in just a bit and test drove it around. Would be fine and then it started to die while I was riding. First cylinder 3 and 4 sound like it wasn't firing and then the bike just died. Wouldn't started back up even with choke on. Had to push it home. Just sound like there was no gas. I'll check spark plugs  tomorrow and see.

Bike was running and all before. Carbs been gone thru. Wasn't running perfect because I was still adjusting the idle mixture screw. Any body got any inputs?

Is your fuel petcock working?

To add to the list of symptoms. While I was test driving it after the adjustments yesterday, the bike would hesitate while I was accelerating. I'm guessing I lean out the mixture too much? Just having too much problem with this fuel mixture adjustments. I think I'm just making it to difficult than it really is.

Got new ngk plugs that I'll put on later. New fuel filter just in case. Set all the fuel mixture screw back to 1 1/2 turns and start over again I guess. Will see if it starts again.

I think you just hit the nail on the head, you are overthinking it. You are expecting the fuel adjustment screw to do too much. I think you have a problem somewhere else. Now how do you know your petcock is working correctly? Those vacuum operated petcocks (I assume you are working on a DOHC) are notorious pieces of crap! Have you checked to make sure there are no vacuum leaks around the carb boots?

Tools, figured it out. Turn out it was a dirty filter. Bought a new one and now fuel is flowing like it should. Pretty happy and thanks for your help Tools. Very much appreciated!

Well done.  I'm thinking swapping the fuel filter should be scheduled with an oil change.  They're cheap enough (the paper ones ShinyRibs recommends), and easy to swap out.
