replacement sprockets and chain cb750 dohc

clintwillis
anybody have any advice on replacing stock sprockets and chain on a stock 79 cb750k?

i have been breaking down and both sprockets need replacing I would say.

i have heard switching to a 530 chain set up is good with an aluminum rear sprocket.

any advice or experience here with this particular set up or advice on a better one?

I hear aluminum sprockets don't last as long as steel ones. No personal experience here with AL sprockets, but I have 10,000 miles on a set of steel sprockets that were already on the bike when I got it. They look perfect.

Anyone have personal experience with life expectancy on AL sprockets?

Oh, when you get a 530 chain ( highly recommended IMO) make sure you get on with a tensile rating of at least 9,000-9,500 lbs. I didnt and regretted it A low tensile chain will stretch badly. These bikes make good power and are kinda on the heavy side. They will work a weak chain to death, fast!

i was figuring the conversion was the best from what I have heard ... I did not think I really need the aluminum rear sprocket however I have heard its a good alternative however it is a soft metal.

I need to ask around good sprocket size combos for the 530 to run great

I'm pretty happy with the 18-48 sprockets I have on both my bikes. They are 530. I am building a third bike now and I plan on running 18-48 on that one too. In 5th gear i tach 5,000 rpm at 70 mph.

Thanks for the AL sprocket info Alfa! Wow,4000 miles on a dirt bike is a fair amount of seat time!

Aluminum rear sprocket is ok. It is so large.
NOt for the front sprocket though, even if they make one.
