Thank you, yea i've got it in the driveway now, heres a pic, only paid 200 bucks for it, actually, i only paid 100 for the 74 last year too. the 74 is pretty unmolested as it was in a barn for X amount of years, motor still turns, figured after i did the carbs, i'd put some kerosene in the spark plug holes and slow kick it a few times to relub everything and change the oil.
The 78 is in great shape too as you can see, ofcourse i make a habbit since i flip so many bikes of spraying them all down with engine cleaner when i unload them to see what kind of real deal i got after all the grime is off. It's a real toss up, even now, the ss seems kind of low and i'm fairly tall, and I was born in 74 so the 74 also has nastalgia factor.
thanks for the info on the difference, how tough is it to do a valve job?? excuse my ignorance, i flip alot of bikes, but mostly do cosmetics or simple things like carbs, clutches, stators, electronics, etc, dont really get into engine work. they both got around 25k on them. I think... the 74 says 7800 miles, but came with an extra box of parts and the other guage cluster says 24k, so i'm figuring it was swapped, maybe not.. who knows, inspection sticker is too old to tell when last on, but i know it was the 80's. I'll probably just slap a hundred dollar cafe seat (i'm a deal finder, i've got a special place i find them for around a hundred, the same ones listed for 300) on it, cafe bars, and paint, and call it close enough, side mount tail light and custom turn signals naturally, but i wont get into a complete tear down and such.
heres the next project..... maybe projects.... going through a divorce right now and having to move, so my 9 bikes i've got right now, i can only fit 4 in the little garage i'm moving to, i may keep both of these and my regular xs1100 custom bobber, still leaving room for another flip bike. we'll see....
