stripped cam chain tensioner

tangylee
Hi yall, just seein if I can get any advice on this

Seems to be a lingering problem a had forgotten about, but now that everything else is in good working order I am thinking i need to do something about it. I have a 82 cb 750 f DOC, the threads for the front single bolt for the cam chain tensioner is stripped. Its no stripped too bad, but I definitely can't tighten as far as I should be able to tighten. I'm not getting any leaks so its fairly tight, but I dont think its pushing down on the tensioner. I have been lookin into "time serts" and heli coils but I dunno about that cause their isnt much room to install those things, and id prolly mess it up anyway.

so how many lbs of torque should the front cam chain tensioner have? or how far does it need to push the tensioner down? (if I understand it right) Im thinking my best bet is to find a slightly bigger bolt and screw it in, sounds aweful but I'd hate to break my cam chain, what options do i have?

thanks in advance

sub'd as I think I might have the same issue, or will have it soon.

Anyone have experience heli-coiling these?  I don't think there will be a room issue as the hole doesn't need to be bored out much for a heli-coil, but I'm wondering if I have to open the engine to do it properly.

My 81 750c had the same thing. I just got a grade 8 allen head bolt American thread and put it in place. fit perfect. able to tighten  solid.           Ray
