stupid arse question!!!!!

This may sound like a really stupid arse question to you lot....but is a starter solenoid the same as a starter relay?????

well there is no stupid questions here...

Yes they are one in the same. a relay is a silonoid but used in a different way. and usualy low power.

So....on my 81f it has a starter solinoid fitted, which looks very broken, so ive been trying to find a new one, but all i can find is starter relays for this model!! Am i good to fit a starter relay on to replace the starter solinoid????

You should check your wiring diagram to see if it has a relay to control the solenoid mounted to the starter . The Japanese manufacturers are really good at doing this , as smaller wire can be used to operate a higher draw circuit . -- It's a possibility that it has both .

You can test it by runnung a wire from the + side of the battery to the small wire on the cylenoid.
