Anyone know what size of screw is used to keep the tachometer cable in on a dohc? I am doing my valve clearances and found out that my tach cable screw is missing.

I do not know for sure but it is about 5/8ths inch long about. For the size, I am going to think 10x24 maybe 8x24 or so. The manual does not say exactly what it is, at least not that I have found.

Check bikebandit, for a parts schematic. It might have the size listed.

Just order a new screw from Bike Bandit. Do it right.
BTW...Did you take the slack out of the cam chain before adjusting the valves?

Tools, that's the speedometer screw.
I need the tachometer screw, for the cable that goes into the camshaft cover.
Wow, I didn't think I'd ever correct Tools on anything related to bikes. I guess there is always a first (and probably only) time. Lucky, I'd definitely prefer to order the exact screw if I could find out what it is. The P.O. must have lost it somewhere.

Or are you saying that it is the same screw? If so, that is good and bad. Great that I found the screw, bad that now I'll probably never correct tools on anything

Only problem now is that I'm almost back where I started. I don't think I have all the data I need to buy the exact bolt. Shouldn't there be three numbers? 5x20 is all that they say.

don't forget the brokerage fee [usually $15-$20] that will be charged because GST will need to be paid.

It's HST in Ontario now...
It's always fun to complain about taxes That said, I have lived in the States in the past (New Hampshire) and when you include health insurance and other stuff that are "free" in Canada then the Canadian income tax rates get a lot more appealing.
The lower you are on the income ladder the better it is to be in Canada from a taxation perspective. The higher your income then the better it is to be in the states because things like health insurance and paying for private schools are flat fees that don't scale with income like taxes do (apparently public schools in Canada are MUCH better than many areas in the States - I don't have direct experience here). Top income tax rate in Canada is 40%, but that only applies to income over $132K/year - most people pay less.
I think I miss the abscence of taxes and lack of price control on alcohol the most (cheapest you can sell a beer for in Ontario is $1 + 10 cent deposit - so a case of the cheapest stuff is $26.40 - decent beer is usually around $35/case).
