top triple clamp

cardinal430
Ok fellas,  a question,     I've taken my handlebars off ( got new ones ) and I'd like to remove and paint the upper triple clamp.  Is it going to be okay to just loosen the 3 pinch bolts and remove the stem nut and pull it off of there?  Could it be that easy?  or is something going to get very unstable when I do that?  It looks to me like the bottom triple clamp should hold the forks in place.  or am I missing something?
Thanks.

Nah, it'll flex. Probably won't hurt anything, but it will have everything in a bind. I wouldn't risk it. These bikes aren't very light and these forks aren't very beefy.

If you put the bike on the center stand you can take a jack to the oil pan and lift the front wheel off the ground. Use a block of of wood and you won't risk hurting the pan.

Or a ratchet strap around the neck of the frame and the other end of your strap over a rafter.

so with the bike jacked up and weight off the nose wheel,  there won't be a bind?
I have an atv /  mower jack.
