trip odo toast

free2ride
just wondering if there is a way to fix the trip odo [on an 80K] . . . after many years of being "iffy" and jimmying it, it's finally dead. if I take the unit off the bike and open it up will it all fall apart so much so that I'll never get it back together?

the trip odo is not a necessity, I just like to ride and note when it's time to fill up without having to do math in my mind.

*further clarification: I press the button and it goes right down and does not "spring" back up.

Try spraying some penetrating oil on/in it. If that does not work I would suggest replacing it rather then trying to take it apart.

I remember seeing something about this one. The one on my 80 was about like how you say yours is. Opening up these gauges isn't nearly as difficult as the crimped together single cam clocks.

You know you'll never be able to fix it from the outside. If you go inside you might have chance.

Yeah, I have been contemplating trying to find a different host. I mean, we get the ads enough, but that stupid little popup gets irritating. I haven't had anything weird, it's just annoying.

I have not seen it in awhile now. Thought it was gone.

It's only annoying on the mobile. Every thread I open goes to a new tab, but that a non-issue on an actual PC.

Gotta do what you gotta do.

I had the same issue on my 81K. It came apart easily and I just blew out all the accumulated road dust and lint, hit it with WD40 and it all started working well.
I always figure that the worst case is I'll have to buy a new one so what have I got to loose?

I think I'll take it apart in the winter. early, so I can look for a replacement if need be.

thanks all [the penetrating oil didn't work; think the spring is toast].
