For a number of years tires sizes were based on inches, so you would have a 4.00 or 3.50 size tire or some such thing. You can still find them like this but metric sizes are much more common.
I know a lot of people do the bridgestone spitfires. They are a good low cost tire. The shinko 712s are what I have know and I like those. Also a nice inexpensive tire.
motorcycle-superstore.com give s good prices with free shipping over 100.

There is a chart somewhere in the forum.  I would not spent alot of money on tires for these bikes.  I don't think they can benifit from very stickey tires.  Probably cause you to over ride the frame.  Just my thoughts.

I run Pirelli MT66 Route tires on all of my bikes.  Look them up online, for owner reviews.  They are excellent in dry grip, fantastic wet grip, and they seem to ignore most cracks, and grated bridges.  Not sure, yet, how many miles they are good for.  Cheers!

Looks like a good choice.  Will have to try these next time.

I agree there.  Also, I wouldn't buy the fattest tires that fit, as some people do.  They may make your bike look bigger and badder but they mess up the turn handling.  I installed the factory-recommended rear tire on my CB750 and, even though it looks pretty slim, it actually accelerates, turns and stops great.

Same here.  I accually screwed up and now have a 17" rear wheel on a 73 cb.  Now I need to change the gearing a little. But is sure does go!
