wet oil on plugs

wes
im really worried this may be a lil more than i can deal with. wouldnt oily plugs be piston rings?i also wonder if oil on plugs could short out the coils. when i first got this bike in june there was ver lil oil on dipstik, wonder if it was run with low oil, causing heat. but if thers oil on the stick, theres got to be oil in the motor right? got a 3 day weekend and really wanted to ride!!!!!!!!

It's either bad piston rings, or bad seals on the valves.  Can't say more than that, but Tools will be able to shed a sharper light on the subject.  Best of luck!  Cheers!

Bout what Sarg said. Be sure to run both a dry, and a wet compression test. That way, you will know if it is rings, or valve stem seals. Doing the top end on these engines is not bad, and besides. It will be a great excuse, for an 836 kit.

take a deep breath and step away for a moment. just a couple days ago... one of the last rides i took. bike just changed. started running like crap, like a switch was turned off. bike is a lil bitchy so i didnt freak out. next time i started bike, choke wouldnt stay all the way out. would want to open byitself. thought it might be a frayed cable, broken cable. i now have to hold choke out with my teeth while holding clutch with left hand and throttle/ starter switch with other. after this is when i noticed #4 pipe not heating up. with plug out and grounded to case i see spark. im wondering if this is all a carburator/fuel problem. wouldnt a broken ring make some noise? if the ring is broken, wouldnt runnin it like this cause cylinder damage. not gonna do anything else with till i do compression check, both dry and wet. i appreciate the advice! thanks to slag and tools.and the thought of an 836 kit makes me smile. didnt know there was such a thing. i read somewhere on this forum that TURBOS SUCK! BLOWERS BLOW! AND BOTTLES ARE FOR BABYS! NOTHIN ELSE MATTERS BUT CUBIC INCHES!. so if thats true, shoot yeah an 836 kit sounds good. i just wonder how much somethin like that would cost????

I have seen the big bore kits go from around $150-$450. There are some on ebay and lowridersbysummers.com has a super nice looking kit with Wiseco pistons. That is some good parts there.   I remember reading somewhere about there being a nut on the choke pull off, handle end, that you can tightem to put tension on it so it will stay pulled out.At least thats what I THINK i said.Might wanna check that out.

And yes,o broken ring couls very well score a cylinder wall very quickly. If that is the case,it has probably already done so.Not trying to scare you, just saying dont worry about it hurting something now since you need to check compression. You gotta turn it over to do that.

I am not familiar with how your choke cable works.Do all four carbs have their own cable in the end?If so i wonder if one of your carbs just will not come off full choke.Like it cable came loose. That would kinda make sense.

Here is a link to one big bore kit.Kit+shipping+get your jugs bored=done.Probably not that bad of a deal really.

Lets see... 750cc making roughly 70 hp=0.09 hp per cc    +100cc@0.09hp=additional 9 hp. Of course the larger bore will facilitate valve un-shrouding resulting in better airflow thru the heads,so power increase may be more. That is just a very rough estimate.Who knows what it would do for torque.I wonder if the factory carbs will support the extra cc's?

There is a guy on ebay selling kits, for $110.00. I have heard of guys using them. Said they are OK. i would not want to build a race bike with one, but, for a little more power, for everyday riding. I think they would be all right. Have thought about ordering a kit myself.
