will the head light off my windjammer fit as a stock headlight?

mike piwinski
I saw picture on e bay of a windjammer with the headlight missing. It made me think, can I use the head light off the windjammer as a head light on 76 750ss?Has anyone done this? When you bought a Windjammer back in the day did it come with a headlight or did you mount your stock one in it?

The Windjammer has it's own headlight, but it could be mounted to the fork ears.  However it would be hard to find a headlight to fit the windjammer if, you took it off.

Actually, Windjammers take a standard sized, 7", headlight, if I remember correctly.  The size of the bulb assembly is what makes/breaks the modification.  There are 5", 7", and other sized headlights, pretty much all available still.

I replaced the headlight on my Vetter Vindicator fairing (came from the Windjammer molds, as per Craig Vetter, only it does not have the built-in turn signals).  I went to Autozone, found a halogen bulb in the correct size, and wattage, for $11, and installed it.  I did not know how many hours were on the old bulb, so I wanted new, to be safe.  No issues, after five years.  Cheers!

Sarg, you keep coming up with some very detailed information. What he is wanting to do is use the headlight bucket. The Windjammers have their own bucket, but it could be use with a set of fork ears. they do have their own way of adjusting, and removing the headlight bulb. there is a tab on the bottom that, you must push back, then turn the chrome rim counter clockwise. I have a Vetter Windjammer II SS right now that still has the original sealed beam from 1976. It is not Halogen, and I sure would not want to ride in the dark with it.

No turn signals for your formerly fairing'd motorcycle?  Get some aluminum bar stock in a 1/4 or 3/8 inch thickness, and about an inch across.  Make a bracket that goes across where the horns are mounted. You may have a bolt that holds that bracket in place. (This is for the stock DOHC models, but could be adapted to SOHC.)  Make 2 right angle bends for your lights.  Get to the MC store, and find some Honda-compatible turn signal lights (parking lights + turn lights).  Measure the diameter of the mounting for the lights.  Drill holes for the lights and mounting.  Bolt it in, and mount the signals.

Then, wire it up to your turn signals.  Should be orange and orange-white and blue and blue-white, and ground for each wire (green).

Easy fix, bit of fabrication, took me about 1.5-2 hours to do.

Turn signals are a very good idea. Now if we could find a way to get other motorists to recognize them, and what they mean. I often use hand signals when in traffic.

I know exactly what you mean! EVERY vehicle i see in a junk yard beckons me.Even the ugly ones. When i see an old car, truck, bike or whatever,i cant help but to think of the person who bought it new off the show room floor and how it would suck for them to see it like that."I must make this right" I think to myself.     Its a long road ahead of me.
