1980 CB750C..carbs totally cleaned but low top end???

gmantexan
Ok I just finished up cleaning out the carbs again and got them back on bike. I have the original breather box by the way. Got her out on the freeway and could only get her up to 60mph. What the heck man!!?? This is baffling to me now. The acceleration is pretty good but not what is was when I have on my uniflo foam pods. I do have new plugs and it is all super clean now. This is frustrating.

Question?...My exhaust leaks a bit because I had to put the muffler back on when it fell off in Utah one day and got run over. When I put it back on though it still ran like a scalded dog. I live in Corpus Christi Texas now and these problems now began when I chose to get rid of my uniflo foam pods. Still baffled..:(

Wish I had not tossed em..i have considered it but spent the money for the breather box, boots..you think an exhaust leak would keep it from opening up like it should?

  I'm sorry i can'i guess at how to fix a bike like some like to for me i stay engine stk.til it needs to go to a mechanic that can put a bigg-borr in it.Use the trouble shoot in manuel or as you are doing hope there is a good guess as to what it is,I'd say a bad leak can cause lots of prob's,but whats a bad leak ?

  You'll get those that wont to know what jets ,needles,tire pressure,but still can't fill or hear,think of it your-self that way,They will hit the nail on the head ..............................................

True enough bad is a relative term but I took it to a mechanic that said he did work and turned out he did not a even left parts out..not cool and I will not go into what should be done for him. I learned a valuable lesson that is how I found this website..funny. I do not give up easily

Re: 1980 CB750C..carbs totally cleaned but low top end???

  I'm very lucky it seems cause i live at a shop that is owned by my cousin He can work on anything and fix it using the computer to find info needed and  That way he just know everything there is to get the job done right.At times his search does come to this forum when working/finding info on my 750(but not much on F2's)
   I just paint N keep everything clean and try to remember how he does it.What I'm saying is you don't have to be a C B 750 mechanic to get the job done right just giving N getting the right info.
  Having to put on new chain in Morn have to myself he don't get up till about 10 and I have a breakfast date by then out of town. Good Luck.

Re: 1980 CB750C..carbs totally cleaned but low top end???

Thanks for your input. This is all a process of elimination and having made it this far I will go further. I just want it to run better so my wife and I can ride freely and it buys me time to get the fuel injected BMW I really want. Once I have it running well I can pass it onto one of my boys when they are ready for it. Being a grandpa now I think a bit differently than before.

"If you think you are beaten you are;
 If you think you dare not you don't;
 If you want to win but think you can't
 It's almost a cinch you won't.

If you think you'll lose you're lost;
 For out of the world we find
 Success begins with a fellow's will;
 It's all in the state of mind.

Life's battles don't always go
To the stronger and faster man,
 But sooner or later the man who wins
 Is the man who thinks he can."

Do you know if the jets were changed or if the needles were moved to compensate for the pods?

Have you done a plug chop to see if the bike is running lean or rich?

Also here is a nice guide to follow for rebuilding the DOHC carbs http://www.cb750c.com/publicdocs/SeanG/Honda_Carb_Manual_revD.pdf

The prices vary on my blades. The Bowie blade I posted a pic of on my thread is $650.00..the other blades on my FB page range from $125 to $350. All my steel is O1 precision ground tool steel. I will begin taking orders for next year in december. If you have a design you like I can look at the pic and quote a price.

They are a bit spendy but as knives go..handcrafted straight blades..kinda on the low side in the price range. Thank you I put as much as 45 hours into some. Most take 25 to 30 hrs.  A fun hobby
