1980 cb750 project

jwright7

Hello there! New user. Was wondering how far off I would be to turn this
into a cafe racer. I love the look of cafe racers but I have no idea where to start.
What is the difference between cb750c and cb750f?
It runs very well.

I believe a C has drum rear brakes where as an F has disc.  C had a different seat and different forks.

To turn into a cafe.  Hmm I would first clean the sh*t out of that bike.  Get the engine running perfectly then worry about fabricating.

A cafe racer to me is a blank page. Design a bike that you like.  Do you want to cruise?  or do you want ride the twisties?

Cletus has a good point: get it running and then see what your working with.

To go cafe a set of low bars (clubmans, clip ons,superbike...) and a different seat will get you close. A different tank,or even knocking knee dents in the one you have, can help create the look. But the sky is the limit.

But it's like Cletus said, its a blank page. There are now set rules to follow. Just have fun with it and build what looks good to you.

The "C" models were cruisers made from 79-83, and were DOHC bikes. The "F" models were kind of cafe style made from 75-78 as SOHC, and from 79-83 as DOHC.

P.S. Your bike is a 77-78 SOHC model. The only thing "80" is the K model seat grafted onto it.

Hoosier Daddy
Welcome!
As Tools said, your bike isn't an a '80 let alone a "C" model. It's an earlier Single Overhead Cam 750, so 78 or older. Good news as there is SCORES more Cafe style products for your bike than almost any other out there, seconded only by the little CB/CL350's.
Carpy's websight will give you some ideas,http://www.cb750cafe.com/ but I feel he's overpriced. You can find better by googleing "CB750 cafe"

Yep, if you're after a powerful cafe racer.  The SOHC cb750 is arguably the best platform - which is what you have there.

There is the argument that a "real" cafe racer should be a British bike, but whatever, I don't really buy into that.

The DOHC's can be made into cafe's, but they are more difficult and parts are fewer and harder to find.

Oh ya, and get it running right first :-).
