I won't say anything about making changes, your bike so have at er! BUT you might bite off more than you want to chew with pods. These carbs require a vacuum to work right and so pods might cause you no end of trouble.
If you do go with pods, do yourself a favor and at least get good k&n pods or Uni pods.

so pod filters are a no go swaped them out had some miss firing issues and because i didnt wanna rejet the carbs or anything i thought the better of it and put the stock air box back in re finished the back plastics and not sure when ima be working on that tank but since then i have also put in ned led turn singals had to get an led relay for them havent swaped out the front, now i have some problems with the charging of the battery, just went out on a 150k ride and the batt died now i would be inclined to believe it was the battery but it has been changed guy before me changed the stator wondering if any one has had these problems, the new batter prolly lasted like 500k on and off riding i know these bikes had issues just wondering if any one has any xp on the matter ! oh and i got the seat refinished, that was a little pricy

Nice looking bike. The electrical was an issue on these bikes. Before you start tossing money at it though. Check what the volts are. Get the bike running and rev to 3000 rpm and check voltage. You should charge around 14 volts, slightly under.
In the shop manual here, it should describe how to test the system. It could even be something as simple as a bad connector.

Sorry I missed the previous post.
Uni pods or K&N pods might help. Of use the airbox with a Uni or K&N filter.

u can see how the tank came out looks pretty good, i actually wanted it to be gloss black the clear coat i bought was actually gloss, i finished painting the tank looking at it i thought i would mount it back onto thebike see how it looked so i did, but then i got greedy and i tryed to fill it up with gas and... long story short i had to redoo the clear coat :( the new bars are meanlooking at the pipe wrap was a little harry putting on i used the better part of 100ft. all and all i like the end result

great bike!!! i also have an '80 750f, beautiful bikes. I myself am about to start wrenching on mine and am wondering if you would be kind enough to offer up any tips for fixing my back fire issues ( i have a stock air box but dirty air filter) and also what were the pipes and bars on it when you got it? i dont want anything too low because im a bigger guy, but still want lower than the original. thanks a bunch. and again beautiful bike!

What was the bars you had on first I really like them. club bars I think are a little too low for me . But I really like the bke .  Oh I have a small hole on the pipes in start of the muffler I think if I would use the heat wrap that might work for a little till I get a new one?

with a hole in the headders i would just get some one to weld a patch on then do the headder wrap becasue one will be the wiser wont hurt anything with a patch on it either. as for the back fire i had the same problem when i put kn air filters, but a back fire usally means its running a little lean or this is a leak some one on your air intake, let it idle and spray some carb cleaner and look for some bubbles. the bars that i had on it at first wernt quiote drag bars but they were nice. thanks for the comments tho still trying to find something else to wrench on lol

I have a 79f, I lowered my bars but ran into issues when making U-turns. Do your grips hit the tank at full lock? I really like the feel and look of lower bars, but I need my u-turning capabilities.

Neither one of my DOHC 750's have any sort of cooler. However the Toolmatic has a period correct, vintage Lockhart oil cooler.
