1981 cb750

livinloud85
So I have a 1981 cb750 4into1 exhaust and pods, sometimes it runs perfect and sometimes it bogs out at wide open throttle. For instance i can ride it to work in the morning and it wont rip at  wide open throttle  but for what ever reason i get on it to go home and it rips wide open throttle not sure why it does this. Seems like every other time im on it it runs perfect then bad, perfect then bad. always starts and idles good. I know the pods are a mess with these carbs but im confused then why some days it runs so well.... any ideas? Thanks.

Welcome to the forum.

Just for giggles, have you tried to run it with the factory airbox?  I'm not sure why some days are good and some aren't...weather, maybe?  Dunno.  These carbs need a constant source of vacuum to work properly.  They _can_ be made to work with pods: just takes some patience, a handful of different jet sizes, and time.

Wide Open Throttle all the time? Seriously?

According to the boys on the CB750 Custom forum (http://www.cb750c.com/), pods really won't work on the CV carbs, 1979+.  Take a look over there, and you will see that they have grown tired of the topic, and they won't even discuss it anymore.

My advice would be to get an OEM air box, and use either a K&N Air Filter (around $60, still available), or a UNI foam filter which you would need to custom make to fit (much less expensive, same functionality, use the K&N oil kit on the UNI foam element). Cheers!

Thanks, Sarge.  I was trying to find some way to tell them that pods and the CV style carbs don't play well together.  If I had a dollar for every time I've typed that paragraph....
