1982 cb750c

lostson

Hello all, I am new here so thought I would start with a first post of the bike I just recently picked up. Bike hadn't been registered or ran since 09 sat in my wife's uncle's garage finally decided it was just in his way so I picked it up for 2bones. This is my second cb750 my last one was fully dressed out, and it ran forever on a lot of long trips. Not sure what I want to do with this one yet. Right now new tires, sprockets and chain are a must. I had to get a battery and plugs and it's running like a champ already although the carbs could use some tuning. Been riding it around and having a blast. I used to buy build and chop bikes all the time years ago but with marriage and kids things slowed a bit. Now the kids are older and I can finally start building again.

Been looking for some parts for this bike particularly lower engine crash bars with not much luck yet. Had never heard of this place before but sure am glad I found it. Lots of nice bikes and projects going on here.

Welcome! Bike looks great. Are those knee pads or is it a painted illusion. I'm always a big fan of blue on a bike.

I have also been looking at new/used crash bars as the ones on my bike are pretty scratched up, been looking at these on ebay, should fit
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Honda-CB750-CB-750-Custom-2214-Chrome-Crash-Bars-Engine-Guards-/360459642081?hash=item53ed11a4e1&item=360459642081&pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&vxp=mtr#ht_500wt_1180
these are a little expensive but look like very old new ones and only have the 2 bars, allot better looking than the three in my opinion but the dollar usually wins

Yeah I saw those on ebay and the prices are pretty high, wasn't to thrilled. My budget is pretty tight the wife and I have 7 kids so anything I can either do on my own or get for free or dirt cheap is kinda the way I like to go.  For instance tonight I tried a trick I had read about, so I flipped my handlebars upside down trying to go for the cafe racer style. It didn't turn out to well so now I am gonna try to scrounge around for a cheap set of cafe style bars.

Bikemaster brand Clubmans usually go for about $25. I have a set and they are very well made. I really can't figure out the guys paying $100+ for clubmans

I got my clubmans the other day put them on and things didn't work out so well.  I ended up putting the stock ones back on. Perhaps I can use them on another bike at some other point in time.

Cable issues or just not comfortable? They take a little getting used to.

cable issues, throttle wouldn't snap back so I may have to get shorter throttle cables. They were really comfortable except for the throttle staying open.

I don't know if some are just used to driving cars/trucks let off pedal gas lets off ,...
Well on A bike you should roll your throttle forward to let off gas DON't depend on the springs to
decelerate your bike,Your on two wheels don't wait for things to happen MAKE them happen stay in control.
You will get hit or bad maintenance will get you hurt.
MY bike came with 2 cables on the throttle one was a return ,witch by the way kept binding ,
I took it off ,throttle does return by itself, just faster when I'm in control.

So every bike I have ever had was setup wrong ? And what happens then when you get knocked off or something worse and the throttle is stuck open ?

So every bike I have ever had was setup wrong ?
If it's not maintained right maybe so.
And what happens then when you get knocked off
I have no Idea I've never heard of anybody getting knocked off there bike,(be glad your not on it if it goes down)
or something worse
Esperance can only answer that and it takes years of having an open mind and understanding Motorcycle safety
and the throttle is stuck open ?
HIT THE KILL SWITCH (IF BROKEN)do your best N down shift slowly, will hurt bike but works

I've had lots of friends and couple family die due to not giving the motorcycle respect,
STRAIGHT OUT motorcycles are dangerous and if you don't think more on maintaining the bike towards saftey maintainace and taking ever precation you can .SOMETIME THE TRUTH hurts.and I'm off the wall going this far into something that can't be understood by.........(thoughs that don't ride regularly to understand)

lotson,my cables are the original ones to the bike. I thought I was gonna need new shorter cables to with my clubmans. It took a couple hours of fiddling but i did finally get them working ok. I say ok and not perfect. When my bars are turned full right it does hold the throttle open some. I really dont care for that for the same reasons you mentioned. Exactly right, what if you are not still on and the throttle is hung openRun away scooter!!!!! I have adapted Oiute's way of just closing the throttle manually, which you sorta do anyway without really thinking about it,but it would be nice to know it would snap shut if need be. I guess i really do need shorter cables, huh?

Had some fun this weekend got new tires put on this monday had to take the rims off and haul them down to the guy, but for the price it could't be beat.  The 2nd pic is the old tires.

I was very surprised at how the handling changed amazing what a new set of tires can do.
