75 CB needs an engine

OS Dog
I have an old CB I have ridden all across the US and Canada. She has about 147,000 on it now. It burns 20-50 and no longer stays in 5th gear. I am looking for an engine to bring some new life to her. I am in Central Michigan, i would like to repair this without losing my shirt, any thoughts on getting an engine and trans at a resonable price will be appreciated. Would definetly consider a parts bike.
Thanks OS Dog

As tools said, try craigslist and just see. You can get any sohc engine to fit except the A engines.
You might also check ebay, you can refine the search to your region, that way you can just drive to pick it up instead of crating the engine.
The ride IS the adventure. The destination is just to get gas!

Dog where are you located?
Craigslist is definitely the way to go. I see stuff like this locally all the time.

Wow! You would have to have long legs to ride that bike. I would pay $600.00 for that bike in a heartbeat.

It does have potential doesn't it? Change the seat, add a sissy bar, rack the neck....
I seriously thought about it for awhile. Thinking:
 " I can recreate my old CB500 chopper in a CB750!"
Then reality set in. There's no way I would get on a chopper again at 51.
I'll stick to looking for my Goldwing.

Put a stock front end back on it. You would really like riding it with that seat. I have the same one, for the Toolmatic. I put it on, for long rides.

Why is it all you  guys just start looking for a NEW engine?

Why not just rebuild the engine you have?

By rebuilding the engine you know what you have and the serial numbers stay the same.
Also you can put the parts in the engine that are better.
If you buy a used engine then it HAS problems too. Just different problems.

Or go online to Carpy's and have him rebuild your engine.
You can customize the engine and increase the value of your motorcycle.

I would say that rebuilding one of these motors requires a bit of mechanical knowledge, some special tools, and a lack of fear of tearing into one of these.  Me personally, I'm better at the external parts of the bike.  Getting into the internals of one of these motors scares me a bit.

One of these years, I'll get a used engine and see about rebuilding it.
