77 Goldwing

rich
I got her naked! I thought the windjammer was making the front end feel heavy and sluggish, but it road the same without it. Turns the front calipers are sticking. It's not enough to lock up the wheel but it is definitely dragging. I jacked up the front end and could barely rotate the wheel by hand. It got easier after a few rotations but stuck again as soon as I touched the break. I opened the bleeders and fluid ran pretty freely out of both calipers. I don't think that's right. The fluid level dropped in the reservoir, it shouldn't flow straight through the master cylinder like that should it?

Before:

During:

After, still dirty as hell but looking better:

Thanks to the parts bike, I had the headlight, front signals and grab rail available. It took a while to run all the wires and repair the rear signals. Got everything hooked up and I was testing the lights and signals, everything worked except the tail light, which I didn't even mess with! Changed bulbs, traced wires, checked the fuse, etc.. Turns out, that everything works EXCEPT the tail light when the key is in the "accessory" position. If you turn the key to "On" the tail light comes on. I don't know why the running lights and headlight come on in "Accessory", whatever... Just got remember to turn the key one more click to "On".

Parts pile is growing. I'll be mounting those black saddle bags I got from Tools last weekend.

Got this seat on the way for $30 + $18 (shipping). It has a small tear on the back but it wont be a problem:

The flat four makes for a low center of gravity though. They also put the gas tank under the seat to keep the weight down low. Handles nice, even at low speeds on gravel

Now bob it!!!
It's only illegal if you get caught.

If at first you don't succeed, use more lighter fluid

If I just leave it outside and let it rust a little more it'll look like that all on its own

It's already pretty ratty looking. Or should I say it has a nice patina.

I it tagged today. I got an antique tag so I don't have pay registration again, ever.
I messed with the brakes trying to get them to stop sticking. I took the reservoir off the master cylinder and tried to locate the tiny hole that is inside another tiny hole. No luck there. I just cleaned out as much gunk as I could and put it back together and bled the system. They were still sticking so I pulled the calipers and made sure everything could move. I compressed the pistons using a c-clamp and pumped them back out a few times. That seemed to do the trick. I know, I need to rebuild the entire system, and I will this winter. I just want to get everything working and see where I'm at. I noticed my odometer doesn't work. Speedometer works fine. I attempted to swap the speedo from the parts bike but I didn't check it first. It was locked up tight and it broke my speedo cable. I had spare cable too, but damned if I could get that fricking screw out of the speedo drive, ended up breaking the end of the cable housing so I just taped the stupid thing back together LOL, works for now.

Seems sort of dumb to take everything of it and starting adding sh!t back on to it. Just trying to make it my own I guess.

I'm trying to mount the saddle bags now. There's a bunch of ways to do it with all the brackets and stuff. Spent hours trying different combos. Finally settled on a way to do it.

I got these pipes coming from ebay. Should look pretty good along with the seat.

I'm picking up a windshield like this from a guy on craigslist tomorrow. He says it's new-in-the-box:

Patina!Nah man, your bike is not all that rough at all. It just looks like someone has put their time in riding is all. I know I used to rag the bikes that were all bagged out,but now I have times where Id love to take the bike but I gotta haul more than my backpack will carry.Respect the baggers-they can get it done.

Now she's "bagged and tagged".

I blew the 30 amp fuseable link so she's stuck at the bottom of the driveway. I was gonna go for a ride and noticed my running lights and instrument lights weren't working so I pulled the fuse cover and went to replace the fuse, forgot to turn of the key and shorted the fuse against another one when I tried to put it in. I rode the 750 down to O'Reilly autoparts and picked up an inline fuse holder to replace the link with. It was too dark to work on it when I got home so I'll put it in tomorrow

OK, this thing needs a lot of work. The front break started dragging on Sunday when I was trying to get it back into the garage after replacing the fuseable link.

At least the low center of gravity makes it easy to pick up. That's all I'll say about that.

Since it needs so much work, I decided to paint it!

Ole Yeller

Just something to do while I wait for parts. I took the panels off the parts bike and got some Krylon Fusion paint at wally world. I could call it "Ol' Yeller" or put some  faces on it and call it "Don't worry (about the breaks), be happy!".

I also got the less comfy seat. It has a good base, just need send it to the upholster that TOOLS uses and get a nice cover made. At any rate, it looks better to me than the king-queen throne that was on there. LOL.
