77 PD Carbs vs. 78 PD Carbs

JFunkadelic
Hey guys,
You all seem so knowledgable about these bikes that this seems to be the place to go.
So I bought two 1977 CB750s, both K models, and I'm going to get a nice running bike out of the one of them. The bikes were sort of junkers, and needs lots of work, so one of the first things I'm doing here is the carbs. Rebuild/cleaning, just checking them out at this point, and I ordered a rebuild kit for the 77 type PD carbs. (As a matter of fact, I have three sets, the two of the bike, and the guy threw in the other one he had lying around). So, like I said, I ordered this rebuild kit since he said it was all stock, and now I'm here looking at the bikes and it turns out I have two different carbs, the PD41A (the 77 I believe), and the PD42B (which, I believe as I'm looking at the thread to specs somebody posted, is the 78 set of PDs). So, the question, what were the differences between these models, since they look almost identical, and do people think the rebuild kit would work for both? I see that the jet sizes are different, but I might have to change those anyways, since I'll eventually be running pods / stacks (stacks if I can get them cheap enough).
Additionally, is one year preferred over the other for those who are experienced? I have two of the 42B and one set of the original 41A.
Thanks in advance for all the help.

They are really the same carbs. The only difference I know of is the needle jet on the 77 carbs is adjustable, and the 78 is fixed.
