How to turn a CB750F1 into a brat-style bike for 3 bucks

The rear end plastic on my bike has always been in rough shape (like much else on the bike), slapping around, cracking and just looking ugly in general.

So yesterday I decided to take it off, and noticed that the chrome frame that holds the taillight came off with the small toolbox in the rear. Grabbed a yamaha tailight and some cheap shelving brackets to mount it to the bolts that held the plastic on...

And voila, a "brat-style" seat that isn't $200, haha. Just need some new bars and it's good to go. I would cut the frame bits off the end, but im gonna leave in case i ever need to put the ol luggage rack on for another trip. Might throw some reflectors on the ends of em, just to look extra dorky.

And yes, I know it's an eyesore, please don't take this too seriously...

Good move! Check those L brackets from time to time... they can crack easily with vibration etc.

I'll pay you $6 to leave that good looking tail on there! Just kidding.

Whatever it takes to keep one on the road.  Nice bike. I love those F's.

That's actually Sylvan Lake in the Black Hills. The old tail looked nice from a distance, but the strips that run along the bottom of the seat tore holes in the tail section where the bolts go through to hold them on. Maybe from vibration or something.

But I agree, the original tails on these things were awesome, but this one was just falling apart unfortunately. I've still got everything, (for especially when I need the luggage rack on there again) so maybe if I get crazy with some bondo and paint, she could be looking stock again.

And I forgot how bad of shape that tire was in when we took that trip. That thing is almost square
