80 Custom front end

Been trying to fine the right top steering cap (triple tree) for a 1980 750 Honda Custom, guess they only made this style for the 1980 Custom then changed it in 81. Have gotten another whole front end from a bone yard near my place but unfortunately the fork lock on my bike won't let the new used part work unless I cut the fork lock tab off of the gooseneck. It does not look like it would cause any problems other than not being able to lock the forks. Would rather put the right part back on it, but if ya can't find it ya gotta make one fit. Any suggetions out there ????????????????????

Cut the locking lug off mate, who locks thier steering anyway ?

i have a 80 and put an 81 front on but i used the trip clamp from the 81 its been awhile but if i rember correctly the trip clamps were different. dont quote me on that but i would check in to it
