82 CB750SC Questions

New to the forums here.  I recently bought an 82 CB750SC as a starter bike to learn on, and Im currently working on fixing up some minor things until I can take my MSF.  Two things Im looking at right now;

The Tach and Speedometer - As far as I can tell, it is stock.  I noticed that they are not backlit.  Are they supposed to be?

Tail Light - The tail light seems to only function as a brake light, should it, or any of the other lights (except the headlight) function as running lights as well?  If so, what could be the cause of them not?  The turn signals work as turn signals, and the brake light as a brake light, but nothing more?

Any assistance you guys can give is super appreciated.

They should have a backlight. The lights probably burned out. Might wanna open up the instrument panel and change all of em. And as far the tail light it should have running lights and the turnsignals not so much.

I popped open the instrument panel, but it didnt seem like I could open the tach or speedometer.  I take it that there is a way to open them up to get at the lights?  As for the tail light, I opened it up as well and there are two light bulbs, both of which light up when the brake is applied, but otherwise, stay off.

hmmm could you take pictures of the tach and speedo? I'm not sure about the tail light  sorry man.

Try putting new bulbs in the taillight. They should be 1156 bulbs. They have two filaments in them (one for brake, and one for tail) and one might be burned out.

Looking at the bulbs, I do believe you are correct.  There are two filaments in them, but only one of them glows.  As for the pics of my tac/speedo, heres two, with flash and without.

Thats what mine looks like. I think there was just a plug where those 2 wires are going into the tach/speedo. Yup I was going to suggest the same thing. Mine are 1157's I just ordered a couple from amazon for $7.

So would I just pull those cables or something to get the backlight working?

Those bulb sockets come out. They should turn counter clockwise, and come right out.

Sorry Tools,  I'm just clarifying here.  Are you talking about on the tach/speedo?  I've got the tail lights off and ordered some new ones

So, I went to the store and took in the bulbs that were in my tail light.  The guy said they were 1157, not 1156 because 1156 only has one filament.  So I bought the 57's and it is still functioning as a just a brake light.  At this point, can I safely assume that there might be something wrong electrical wise?

Now Im confused.  I looked at the wiring schema and it says that there are three lightbulbs.  The tail/brake and a license plate light?  I definitely dont have a license light.
