choke seized

jubal
I have an 81 CB750, and i went for a long ride with some premium gas this past weekend. Now the choke will not pull out and has seized. I have tried lubricating it, but it seems there is pressure built up in the cable. Any advice for this problem. Is there a release drain on the bike? any help would be appreciated

So you're saying the cable won't pull out or the choke wont kick on when you pull the cable out? have you checked on top of the carbs where the choke cable attaches to the carbs and see if that is freed up or if it is stuck? If it is stuck some pb blaster should get it free, then I would put some grease or some sort of lubricant on it to keep it from happening again

When I first got my bike I thought the choke was stuck.  Turns out that my friend that rode it the short distance from the shop (was there for a safety certificate) to my house didn't know that to put the choke off you need to twist it.  He had just jammed it in really hard half way.  He is a big dude and put his whole bodyweight into it.  I needed pliers to grip it to pull it out.

Check the FSM.  There is a round part, which is attached to the bike, through which the cable exits (it's the round part, immediately beneath the choke knob, when it is pushed all the way in).  If your choke is too loose, and keeps moving in/out on its own, turn this black 'knob', and it will tighten/loosen the tension on the cable, itself.  Perhaps this is too tight?  It's simple, and very quick to try.  Cheers!

My choke lever will not pull out even using pliers and all the muscle I can muster. I checked at the carbs and I can manually apply the choke. Is there a quick remedy or should I replace the cable?

Check to make sure it isn't kinked or binding, but it might be seized.

If it is kinked or binding try rerouting it.

If it isn't kinked you might be able to loosen it up with oil etc, but a new cable is only $20...

Thanks, I already ordered a new cable but was hoping that I would not have to use it.
