Anyone know where I can find this part?

AAchops
I got clipped today riding my honda chopper and my shifter got knocked off my bike...snapper the hold piece that attaches it to the frame and everything. Anyways, bikes good except it needs some solid welding and I need a part.

Looking for a linkage system to replace my bent one that goes between the shift arm and the clutch region.

Anyone know where I might be able to find something like this? I have been searching for hours and haven't come across anything.

I make forward controls, so I could make that part if I know the length, and threads.

the control set is actually pretty done for...honestly I could do for a whole new thing if possible. Looks like a bad weld or something.

How would I go about finding the thread? I know that the length is 8 inches if I measured correctly.

What size wrench fits the nut? That'll probably be enough to id the thread. OR just run some nuts on there til you find one that fits.

For $225.00 I could set you up with a really nice forward control set up like the one in the picture, that attaches to the front motor mounts. You would just need to paint or powder coat them, and bolt them on.

Sounds great. Could you send me a picture of how it would mount on the engine/ a picture of it mounted on the engine so i can make sure it will fit by my frame?..and so, since I am getting new pipes anyways, can get some pipes that will work around it

No problem. I will take some pictures of the ones on the toolmatic tomorrow. There is a banana shaped piece that bolts to the upper, and lower front motor mounts, and then the forward control assembly bolts to iy. I could leave the banana pieces undrilled, and you could drill them yourself to make sure that the forwards clear your exhaust. The set in the picture is on a Yamaha XS 650, but other then the banana mount, they would be the same.

Hey Tools, would these happen to fit a DOHC?

Since the DOHC has the same motor mounts, they should. I just have not had a chance to try them yet.

Here are some pictures of the bananas I have on the toolmatic.

On the pegs, AAchop has pegs, so I did not really figure those into the price, I was just including the chrome clevises and the shift brake pegs. The shift, brake, and foot pegs are just Drag Specialty items, and they have an assortment of different styles. These particular pegs are the least expensive, and I am cheap, so that is what I used. If you want, I could just do a set with just the clevises for you, and you can get the fancy pegs from Drag Specialties (ebay...).

Re: Anyone know where I can find this part?

Those look perfect. It would probably be good for me to drill the holes myself, looking at it now. How can we move forward? I also want to talk logistics about the other parts I would need for this. I have foot pegs and a brake lever on the other side that are set up the same way the one that broke was, but i think it would be better to try and set them both up the same.

Maybe you can let me know a cost for individual parts I might want from you past the baseline needs?

Thanks for the photos!

I was pricing with you using your existing foot pegs since you already have them. I was going to include the little pegs for the shifter/brake pedals, the chrome clevises the the foot pegs mount to, the shift/brake linkages with hemi joints, and longer motor mount bolts. The parts will be unpainted, but I could get them powdercoated if you wanted. The chrome clevises, foot pegs, and shift/brake pegs are just Drag Specialty aftermarket items, so if they are ever damaged you can replace them. You will need to modify your brake and shift levers so that the hemi joints on the linkages can bolt to them (yours might have been done already.) If not, you will need to drill a 6.75mm hole, and tap it to M8X1.25mm. If you would, take a picture of where your brake pivot is for me. That way I can get an idea of how the linkage needs to go for the brake. I might need to have you get a measurement also.
To go forward (pardon the pun) I would like a deposit of $100.00 (I take paypal) and I will have the parts cut out on a plasma cutter and get fabricating.

Re: Anyone know where I can find this part?

sounds great. Here are some pictures, let me know what you would need measured.

I would probably want everything unpainted cause it will go nicely with my bike. I am unsure as to what you mean by modifying the levers with the 6.75mm hole and what a M8X1.25mm is?

And here is an image of where it would mount...(brake side)

Those are right out of the 70's. The part that attaches to the brake pivot at the rear looks just like the one's that came with Triple A floor boards. I wonder if those might be Triple A forwards? You will need to take that part off and turn it over so that the tab goes down, and if you are going to use those pipes, you might need to loosen them up, and pull them out from the frame a little. However that is minor. I will need to include two spacers for the top of the banana because your custom frame does not have a mount there, but that is not a problem. If you would, measure from the bottom motor mount on the right (the one under the center of the engine) to the center line of the brake pivot. That will get me the length I need for that linkage.

Re: Anyone know where I can find this part?

Pretty cool stuff. I managed to get a lot of really classic 70's parts on this thing.

I am not exactly sure what you mean by center line of the break pivot and which motor mount...will you clarify for me so I can get an exact measurement for you?

Also, I am having this weird problem with my pipes where i cannot get the header to stay on the manifold/thing that the pipes clamp around on the engine. It could be due to the way that the pipes are mounted on my bike because they do sit a little strangely.

Both the center pipes pop out when i ride, but recently it got really bad.

on this one, i can't get it to stay at all if the bike is running.

I am thinking maybe those manifolds are not meant for the pipes? but I don't know, the guy I bought the bike from put the pipes on and there have been quite a few things that seem rather janky.

I am going to eventually put some pipes on, i really like these by cycle exchange...

just once i get the money because I am also having charging issues and may need to get a new reg/rect...and I need these forward controls.

Anyways, any suggestions on mounting these pipes differently?

thats how they mount above

and this is how they mount below

I was thinking, in order to gain more clearance because the outside pipe sits nearly below the other, I could somehow get a flat connector with two holes like so

in order to bolt the outside pipe to that, then bolt the otherside of that to the inside pipe/frame allowing me to bring the outside one level with the inside.

I will take a picture of the mount I need you to measure from, and the pivot is where the chrome rod goes back and attaches to the chrome thing that is attached to the shaft. On the pipes, that finned ring is supposed to clamp the pipe to the spigot, but since it is coming off I would say that the clamp is not tightening enough, or the pipe may not be compressing (cut a few slots in the pipe under the clamp) or (and most likely, the mounts are not holding the pipes where they need to be, and pushing the pipes off the spigots. The best thing to do, is when you get those new pipes, get them for a 77-78 model, and do away with the spigots (they are bolted the the engine) and use the later model flanges with the half-moon clamps. On your charging, since you have a custom bike, I would suspect the wiring is not correct before replacing parts. Here is a simple wiring diagram that you can check against.
