Can't get my pipes off the bike

stewbailey
I'm working on a 76 CB750(still not sure the model number) for my preachers son

I finally got the bike running with a little bit help from this site. I can't figure out how to get the pipes off my bike.

I already removed the sprockets (collars or whatever you call them)
I already removed the peg bolts but I can't get them to pull free.

I've been looking on the web for the last three hours, trying to find some tips and tricks to get them off, but nothing has helped. The pipes are in really bad shape rusted beyond polishing, but I need to save them because I'm going to sandblast them and pait them with header paint....if that doesn't turn out verygood then I'm going to wrap them, cut off the turn downs and put some tips on them. Unless anyone else knows a less expensive route that still will look good when I'm done.

Well if you have removed the collars, then I would have to say they are corroded on pretty badly.
You might be able to take a 2x4 and put it against 1 pipe and then rap lightly with a hammer a few times to break the rust. Some pb blaster or some other penetrating spray might be helpful.

Also, if the pipes are rusted THAT badly, you might want to see about finding a rust converting spray and then wrap them. They might be too far gone to sandblast.

I tried everything PB a hammer and a 2x4 I think I'm going to try to bust the mannifold loose at the block with an impact wrench tomorrow (have to borrow the inpact wrench from a buddy) Anyone know a cheap place to get exhaust seals

I got some from partsnmore.com for something like $4, but that was a few years ago. I doubt they are much more now though. They were not copper but have worked well for me.

Man do I feel your pain! I had to wrestle mine off today. That sucked! Mine were two into ones and I had to remove the megaphone muffler and then twist them out of the collars.
