Center stand tips?

sjackson
This is the first time I've owned one of these bikes. Boy, they sure are a pain to get up on their center stands. It doesn't seem like I should need to struggle as much as I do. Is there some sort of trick that I'm just too dim to figure out? I lower the stand until both feet are touching the ground, and then try to use the bikes momentum to get it up on the stand... but it's just not that easy.

You are doing it right putting both legs of the stand on the ground and rocking it up. My other 70's bikes were a real pain too but it's because the stand is not placed at the proper center of bike's gravity. These are only 500 lb bikes and should be pretty easy. My Goldwing is 900 lbs and believe it or not is much easier to get on the center stand. Not much you can do about these but it's better than not having a center stand.

Took a long time for me to get the hang of it, but once I caught on it was no problem

Once you get both feet of the stand on the ground put your right foot on the stand, hold the left handle bar to keep the front wheel straight, grab the grab rail with your right hand and simultaniously put all your weight on the stand and pull straight up on the grab rail and the bike will go onto the stand easily. I learned this when I was a skinny ass kid (40 years and 100 pounds ago) and it will surprise  you how  easy it is once you get the knack of it.

That 2x4 trick works great! Thank you Alan.  I used a 2x6 piece but same deal. Regards,
