Chain Question

I finally got all my mail order parts in and took my 'new' bike for a ride.
The chain seems to be really loose.
The chain tensioner looks like it's as far out as it can go on both sides.
Am I going to have to get a new chain installed?

It's an rk630 chain on 15/38 tooth sprockets.
I suspect this chain is too big for these sprockets or
the sprockets are too small for this chain. HuH?

I'm thinking about going to a 46t rear sprocket.(15t front)
Does anyone know what the ratio would be and
how that would affect torque rating?

if the chain isint one of the new parts then its time for a new chain. Take the chain off lay it down and measure the length. If its a #6 chain each link is 6/8th's (3/4'') long.  Count the links and do the math and compare the difference between the measured length and the length its supposed to be.

The first number of the chain designates the chain pitch and represents the distance between each pin in eighths (1/8) of an inch.

630 chain is 3/4" pitch (or think of it as 6/8"), 530 chain is 5/8" pitch - so if you are not sure what size chain you have on your bike, just measure the pin-to-pin distance.

The second two numbers show the width of the roller section of the chain in eighth's of an inch with an assumed decimal point between the numbers.  So 630 chain is 3/8" wide and 525 chain is 5/16" wide (2.5 eighths).

        520 5/8 inch pitch, 1/4 inch wide
        525 5/8 inch pitch, 5/16 inch wide
        530 5/8 inch pitch, 3/8 inch wide
        630 3/4 inch pitch, 3/8 inch wide

I've got a 46T rear sprocket on my '80 CB750F.  I'm not sure what the front sprocket is but it's got lots of torque.  Unfortunatly, it's turning 6k rpm at 65-70 mph and I'm only getting 39 mpg.  I'm looking to drop a few teeth.
