Chain

jbrightwell
I hope this is the last time I have to ask my friends here about chain.  My current chain is a 530 with 110 links.  Motorcycle Super Store insists that I need a 530 with 108 links.  Which is right and will either one work?  Bike is a stock 81 cb750 K.  Thanks everyone - JON

I did my first chain this year. The gent at the service parts counter told me to wrap a full length chain around the sprockets, measure where to make a cut (measure twice, cut once), and use an angle grinder to cut to length. I ended up cutting off about 8 links, and my chain fits like a glove. As a side note, spend the $5 and buy a chain press tool, it will turn a 2 hour job into a 15 min. job.

Since this is on the same note, I was wondering what I should use to wipe the excess grease off the outside of my chain. I would like to keep it nice and shiny!

I'll back Shultz up on that one, it's better to buy a longer chain if you're not sure how many links you need. I have an 18T front and 45T rear sprocket and run 102 link 530 chain. What length you need just depends on your set up. Buy the 110 link and cut it down to what you need.

Give me this evening and I can tell you what I have.

With that said, order the 110. Best to have too many than too short.
Turbos, Hondas, 4-bangers, what could go wrong?
