Hey guys my local machine shop quoted me at $95 per hole. Does that sound about right for boring out the cylinders? Thanks!

NO!!!!!!! Most AUTOMOTIVE shops with the newest most advanced equipment charge $25.00 to $35.00 a hole to bore a cylinder. The small engine shops, speed shops, and motorcycle shops that have old wore out equipment are the ones that charge those outrages prices like you were quoted. My local Carquest has a state of the art machine shop with the equipment to bore down to 1 3/4 inch. They charge $25.00 a hole to bore a cylinder and $25.00 a hole to do a valve job. They also measure the heads for warpage and if they need shaved the cost is $35.00. Also most of the time my parts are done the next day. They come back perfectly clean and ready to bolt on. I could tell you horror stories about taking parts to motorcycle shops for machine work.

Well damn. Thanks for the heads up! It's a machine shop that quoted me this but they do have "racing" in their name, so maybe they think they are special? I don't know. Okay, I'll keep asking around and see who will do it for a better price. I'll see if there is a carquest around here. Thanks Tools!

I doubt prices in my area would be that low, but it reminds me to shop around when the time comes.

A local performance shop by me quoted $35.00 a hole to do my 985. Sounds like you need to do some shopping around.

Alright so after a few hours of price shopping (not done yet) A shop quoted me $50 per hole. Much better. They use a CNC machine to bore out the holes and then a hone afterwards. Thanks guys.
