Do I and a harley to the fleet

Bobber0071
I have a oppurtunity to pick up a 96 sporty for cheap. I am not a huge harley fan. But at the price it is hard to say no. 2500.00 16,000 miles drag bars forward controls  drag pipes stage 1 screaming eagle. It would be out of place with my metrics .

I do not know where, you are at, but here in Kansas City I see late model Sportsters, for $2,000 to $2,500 all the time. These late model Sportsters are not that popular. Just not enough Harley to impress the RUBs.

They average around 3000 to 4000 here in michigan. It is winter  time I know in the spring I could flip it to fund other projects.

Flipping it is good.  That is how I got my Voyager:  the seller picked it up, cheap, then rode it a few times, then sold it to me, for a profit (I think I may have over-paid on it, but it has been gone through, with all needed repairs completed, so it is a very trustworthy ride, now...).

HD's tend to sell for higher prices than similar Japanese bikes, so if you can turn and burn, for a profit, go for it.  There is nothing wrong with that.  Cheers!

I would buy it at that price. That bike would go for $3500-4500 in my area.I'm sure there are plenty of metric fasteners on a Sporty.I like Sportsters, just dont fit on them comfortably. The "new" harley guys,at least around my area, view Sportys as a good beginner bike for ladies.Uhm...its small because it is the "Sport" bike. Not meant to be a heavy weight macho cruiser.Breed of their own...

Shiny,

That's how it is around here. Mostly ladies or small guts.  Just never messed with a harley because it is a expensive habit as is. I am only considering it because it would be a good flip.

Sporter are dime a dozen with high miles, cause there a pain to work on,
Now is it A 883 Hugger ? or A 1200 ? The 12 may be worth putting in a lil cash ride a bit and flip as you put it

The Deuce deluxe and the Heritage(boyh Soft-tails)
are the best starter bikes now for H.D.s cause there lower center of gravity. The Hugger may be slammed to 24" (cost$). I think 241/2"  is stock on Deluxe and Heritage is 25"(mine)

Don't get tricked.

The 2004 and later sportsters are a completely different and better bike.
Stronger frame, stronger swing arm and RUBBER mounted engine finally!
Larger fuel tank.

Many people try to sell older sportsters for the same price as the late model used sportsters, hoping you will not know the difference ( rubber mounted engine). Watch out.

It is a 883 hugger. Really clean looking. Just don't want to get into the hype of a harley I have always  like them but never wanted to owe one they are overprice.  I enjoy my metric's  so much more.  Easier to work and not on ever corner.

Not sure what you mean by hype,
But to make the $ (let those who ride decide) I'm betting thats an average $ ,miles are low though,Ask and check for receipts(look for tires and chain) if so those were hard low miles (could be reason for low miles N $)
They should be made for it BUT  run compression test(fast / simple / easy). Is winter real hard to re sell right away,Sounds to me you've made up your mind with your passed SX bike now a few Honda's you've heard enough I've seen / heard myself , all have to compare to something,
kinda like A mans man thing I think.

Re: Do I and a harley to the fleet

I succumbed a few weeks ago I must admit.  My wife will not ride on my Honda but she will go on a Harley though - don't ask why.  I got a 2010 soft tail fatboy with 1000 miles on the clock.  I'm not giving up my Hondas though.
