Engine rebuild questions?

sfaulk320
Ok guys a quick dumb question to start my top end rebuild, i have never done this before and kinda on edge about it but i know ill get it running. I have the engine out and im at the point to take the head off, i have the cam out already my big question is do i have to keep the cam chain on the crank sprocket like i seen in a video? My gut tells me i dont have to, ill just have to get it back on the crank before i put it back together.

Just do not let it fall down into the case, as it is a pain to fish back out. However it is not hard to get back onto the bottom crank sprocket if it comes off.

Yeah, it's not the end of the world if the chain does fall. It won't disappear since it is still looped around the crank. Like Tools said, if it does fall it won't be fun, but it'll be ok either way.

The cam is not very heavy. You wont have any problem handling the cam with one hand and holding the chain with the other. You'll be fine. It's not as dramatic as the youtube mechanics would want you to believe. Have fun. :)
