First bike owner 1980 CB750K

Sybrant
I finally picked up my first motorcycle, a 1980 cb750k . Bought from a friend for a steal and my wife is calling me obsessed with how much I want to learn about motorcycles and this bike specifically. I'm an aircraft mechanic by trade but I've never bother to work on a car, or motorcycle. You guys will probably be seeing a lot of questions from me, but I just love to learn. So on to my first dilemma,  when I purchased the bike it ran great. I tried to start the bike today and it starts but it's not staying on. I adjusted the choke on the control panel but it didn't help. I remember my buddy saying something about there being another choke controls on the backside of the engines by the carbs and he had to play with that one to get it started. Any recommendations?

Make sure the battery is charging/has a charge, I think 12 volts and over?
They run out of juice, they falter and stop.
Pull a plug, if it's wet, I bet he sold it because it isn't charging.
With a fresh charge, that bike will run almost all day on battery before it dies.
get an inexpensive charger, charge it, see what happens........

Welcome to the madness my friend.

Has a brand new maintenance free battery and I have a trickle charger. I don't think it could be the battery :( thanks though.

Will it stay running if you blip the throttle? The choke controls on the backside of the engines by the carbs is the idle adjust. Try giving that a turn or two and see if it helps.

It would be a good idea to download the FSM from the start page. You should be able to breeze through that.
