Ok I needed to repaint my tank, however I had not planed on it now! Yesterday it sprang a leak while I was riding. So I will be patching and coating the inside plus a repaint. This may take awhile so a look at the tank.
Had to drain gas and ordered a kit from

I feel your pain. I've ben chasing fuel leaks on my bike since I bought the things last year. Seems like I'd fix one and another would pop-up. Kinda like whack-a-mole. I've been thinking about switching tanks just for looks. I have the K tank and would like something a little more streamlined. But, everything I see on ebay or CL is in pretty rough shape and needs to have the inside cleaned and/or sealed. Sub'd to see the process.

Plan is to seal it with lead solder then coat the inside. Never done this before and will post pictures while going along. I watched the video's on how to coat the tank and it doesn't seem that hard just time consuming.

Had you considered JB Weld? TOOLS has used it many times, and it seems like it's impervious to gasoline.
Let us know how the tank sealer works. Most guys here have used either Kreem or POR-15. Make sure you clean out your tank VERY VERY well. ANY dirt or rust on the inside will keep the liner from sticking. I had that happen on my Shadow's original tank. Bought a new one, and paid a little extra for one with rust free innards.

When you do this, get it steam cleaned first to remove fumes. There might be another name for it but I think radiator shops do it for fairly cheap.
I have hear good things about por15.
The ride IS the adventure. The destination is just to get gas!

Yea, I thought about it and may go that way yet. But I have an abundance of lead solder so I have nothing to lose. Go watch the videos on that site I posted. Realy cool how they do it.

This is how I covered the hole where the petcock goes. Had to grind the sides of the link down so it would fit

Tools to clean the tank. The original stuff did not cut it all so I used LimeAway and it worked great. I used the chain to help clean the tank but the real surprise was when I rinsed the tank the rust came right off.
This is after I used the metal coating step.

Looks like you have things under control.
FWIW, I just did my tank with POR-15. The gas inside was black when I drained it. There was surface rust inside.
I did the cleaning step with Boiling water when my wife was out for the day. I did this in the kitchen and had to use the stove.
then the metal treatment. then the POR-15. It's upstairs curing in the living room at 73*F right now. 96 hours to fully cure at 72*F. It was a PIA not difficult just a PIA. I'm getting rid of the internal gas filter and I've installed a inline fuel filter for small cars etc.

On the last tank that I sealed (my 5th one) I used Caswell tank sealer and added white colorant.
I thought it was much better than the Kreem product.
The Caswell is a two part mix.
It was very thick and can be put over slightly rusty surfaces.

I put JB weld on the area the was leaking, over the solder.

That is alot of work! But at least you get fun fumes to inhale All your hard work now will pay off big time in the future. The stripper didn't harm the finish on the tank badge? I woulda been scared of that.

No the are metal I guess. Cleaned them up real nice. I just tape them up when I paint. I will take a pic of the taping tomorrow. I am also painting the tank if it doesn't rain.
