I had the same problem on the same cylinder. On mine,it was the socket I was using. The opening of the socket had a real long roll on the edges and it wouldn't let it go down far enough to grab the plug. I grabbed another socket and it worked.Got lucky. You can try grinding or filing your socket so that the end of it is nice and flat,if you dont mind doing that

I have found the Honda spark plug wrenches that came in the tool kits work best. Some dealers will have similar style plug wrenches, for sale.

My local Honda Shop here in Beckley WV came through, the parts guy Kevin got in his system looked it up then looks at me funny, walks in the storage room comes back in 30 seconds and laughs, this is your luck day. I was still in plastic with the honda motors wings, you can tell it had been in there a long time the, plastic was turning brown. 4 bucks.
So now the plugs are out and they are wet and black now what? I was hoping I didn't have to pull this engine out to get this thing running right.

Wet and black means they are soaked with fuel. Either its just way too rich,or the ignition is weak. Most likely its just rich. Are you still running the 145 jets? Those things are huge! I have mine with 125 mains and the idle screw out 1 1/2 turns. Mine is a tad rich at idle, but since these round top carbs are known for an off idle stumble,it helps to be a tad rich. I know you dont want to hear it,but if you are still running those 145's that is probably the cause of it.

Thanks Ribs, I actually pulled the 145s and went back to the stock 120s, made sure the slow jets were cleaned up to, and just changed out my petcock, cant wait to get it running right, I got the sync tool ready just need to get it to run.

Ok,if you are back on stock jets than that should not be causing the fouling. If you havent synced them yet I'd do that first and check the idle mixture screw. Synced and I/M screw at 1.5 turns out and you should be good. If it is still fouling then you can revisit the fouling issue later.

Put a set of iridium plugs in it. Those will burn anything.

Iridiums are weird. My low speed power improved a little, but my idle got rough and dropped when I put mine in. I actually had to turn the idle speed screw in to keep it running after I put them in. Just saying

I agree that 145's are huge!!

The idle screw will have no effect on the main jets.

True, but it can still cause fouling issues.

My Craftsmen 6pt.18mm wouldn't fit down that well ,had to use the Ole shop 6pt Snap-on,I'll double check ,the wall thickness twards a 12pt,older craftsmen (20yr)were thinner,So if you go buy ,get the thinner walled socket.

I guess I got lucky. I just grabbed 1 and bought it. I had no plug socket in my tool kit. But it is a thin wall 6 point.
