Hondamatic bobber rear brake build

Rusty Spokes
This post was updated on .
I called around some shops to take my bike and have them fabricate a rear brake and even checked with CycleX but they never got back with me. So after months of research and calling I decided to just figure it out myself since I already done everything. What I found out was that the 76' Hondamatic has a longer brake rod than the 77 / 78 Hondamatic but a shorter brake pedal. Since my hard tail is 2 inches longer, the 76' brake rod and 77' brake pedal made up for it. From there I went to a ACE hardware store and bought a 3/4 6 inch pluming pipe for $2.69 + tax. You'll also need to cut and grind some pieces off the stock parts to make it work but nothing major. From there you just adjust it with your wheel on and weld the pipe to the frame, grease up the inside of the pipe, install your parts and your done! No $$$ needed to spent on highway controls and it still keeps that simple stock look. Hope this helps and I'm sure it also works for the regular 5 speed bobber / chopper hard tail.

Hey Thanks! I was wondering how I was going to do it on my Cycle-One hardtail.

Thanks Shinyribs I'm already cleaning up the frame from all the rust and painting it with some flat black primer and flat black paint of rust-olium spray cans and I already love the outcome...can't wait either!
