Howdy fellers! I am new the forum and just wanted to say hello!

Greetings all! I just wanted to say hello to everyone.

I just picked up a free 1972 Honda CB 750 here in Washington D.C.  Found it on craigslist on Thursday night and picked it up that day.  The previous owner rode it down from NJ 3 years ago and hasn't ridden it since and hasn't even turned it on.  I asked why he was giving it away, and it was because he has no time to play with it and didn't have time to make it into a cafe.

So he said to me, "you're better off selling it off for parts and I don't think you'll be able to bring it back to life."  Well.... after giving it new fresh gas, cleaning out the carbs, new spark plugs and a recharged battery... SHE BREATHES

Going to be changing the oil filter and giving it fresh oil too tomorrow will let everyone know how it goes!

This is going to be a fun project and will keep everyone posted!

Thanks for listening/reading!

What a great find! Congratulations on getting it running. I recommend checking all the tuner parts, especially the tires. Keep us informed, and let us know if w can help.

Welcome aboard!

Hey guys!

Thanks for the response.

So today my friend and I change the oil of the bike.  We took out the 3+ year old oil, which was REAL nasty and changed the oil filter too - pretty messy job.  Afterwards, we turned the bike on and boy oh boy, did it sounds SO much better.

Slight problem however, when we got it started the engine cut off a couple times, and I would have to give it some SLIGHT gas to keep it idle and running.  After doing this a couple times, it sounded like the starter button got stuck, because the electric starter kept on trying to start even though the engine was on.  I was thinking maybe it got stuck or something.

Do you guys know why I gotta keep giving it some gas to keep it idle? I figured I can just turn it on and just keep idling without giving it gas constantly.

ALSO

Have you guys had problems where the start button was stuck or something?

Thanks for all the help everyone!

You probably have gunk in the carbs, and yes the starter buttons are a weak spot on these bikes. vintagecb750.com has replacement buttons.

here is what i would check first

before you ride  anywhere too far away

regulator and rectifier    field and stator coill    make sure it is charging that battery and to do this its a real simple test

get your bike running   get a five dollar volt meter   and turn it to volts put the   positive to the positve and the negative to the negative

now rev it to three thousand or bettter RPMs  and look at your  voltmeter  it should read between  13.5 and 14   anything under that  is bad and over that is bad      thanks for reading and have a great day
