I'M IN LOVE WITH MY 77' Hondamatic

This post was updated on .
I just picked up two months ago from an old timer that had it sitting in front of his shop with no For Sale sign. It's a 1977 CB750A with very low miles but not confirmed yet. The speedometer says 780 miles but my question is..can you reset them? can they brake or stop unless disconnected? Do you think he payed $$ for a new one to have it replaced?  There's a lot of things that says its original because I took took it all apart and all there! I tried moving the numbers and they almost rubbed off! Nothing is broken and the only thing replaced by him that I know of, is the rear tire and chain. The front tire is hard as a rock, cracked, and very weather beaten, the seat was not torn, no oil leaks, the floats are good and the carbs also really clean inside and look like they start right up, the whole bike just looked like it was never tampered with and original and it was last rigistered in 98'. With the bike he gaved me a picture of the bike nicely framed that he had in his office and dated 2004, the title, and bill of sale for $250

Welcome to the forum. I think, you got taken. How about I give, you your money back, for it?
I doubt the mileage is correct. Although most of these bikes are still low mile bikes. The guy's that bought them were not really the motorcycle riding type, or getting old. The seat has been recovered (BTW if, you want to get rid of it let me know.)
I am, so excited to have someone on the forum not building a Cafe bike. Can't wait to see more of it.

Thanks Guys! I'm liking this blog already!! I was thinking the same about them, automatics tend to be owned by the older folks. I bought this one because I needed something to cruz in. Plus I owned a CB550SS Cafe in 98' among others and my last project was a 85 Yamaha Maxim dohc 700 5v per cylinder. It was way to fun to ride and the sound of redline was a dangerous combo for me. So I sold it when I found this one, I figure it was perfect for that clean oldschool look! Tools, how about we trade for the KZ when I'm done with it

Thanks!! It's shaft driven with lots of tourqe, I installed a K&N filter, flipped bars, took off the mufflers, cut the springs since the shocks where gone, cut the original rear fender and seat. It's a great bike but not easy to find parts for it!

Awesome! You should send some pictures of that bike to Trent at Biker Metric. He would love it! I really doubt, you would want my old KZ Copper Chopper. It's still all original, and that SUCKS

Thanks! I understand Tools, its great to have a mix of styles here and there. I myself have a problem with always buying a new project. When I'm done I get bored, sell it and start a new one. But this ones special and it's staying with me! I was j.k. about trading but I'll love to get my hands on one of those KZ's, let me know if you want some help on some ideas! Anyboby is welcome to asked or email for help and I'll gladly reply

Re: 77' RAT BUILD

I finally received my new speedometer and my seat bracket and installed them. I'm not happy it won't fit in my headlight because of the reset nob but I'll deal with it later. Today I'm going to pull the wheel back and try to add tension on the chain, air on the rear tire and install it. Along with that I still have some grinding and drilling to do but now that I have all my pieces together I'm hoping to just start on the wiring this weekend instead.

Thanks Mark! Sorry about the size issue but set set my camera so hopefully it works next time. Today I tried to open the speedometer apart but couldn't, since its not going to be visible, I ended upcutting the trip reset nob and it worked out!! Now I have to finish grinding down the tripple tree and clean it up. I also found this door hindge at a thrift store for my licsence plate (I also found the rods I been using there for $10). A couple of weeks ago I let go of 5 big vintage round headlights with a mounting bolt on the buttom for 6.99 each and it didn't know what I had till the other day when I was looking at some ratrods  Great place to find odd stuff to build with! PARTS INFO: Headlight from a 1977 Puch moped, CycleX speedometer, complete Sportster gas tank, boat ignition, non-spillable electrolyte Yuasa battery (really small but powerfull), ears ebay, vintage custom drag exhaust (maker?), replaced the front wheel with tire, new bars, and ebay solo seat. And that damm wiring I need to make thats just waiting for I don't know what day!?! lol SOON I hope!

Thanks CitySlicker! Today I got to take off all the paint on the tank and installed my seat with bicycle seat parts, original brake light ended up bolting onto the door braket, flipped the bars instead, drilled a hole to secured the gas tank, cut and grind more off the top end of the brakets under the gas tank to make it fit better. I still have to raise it about an inch to give the exhaust clearence and I still don't know when I'm getting to the wiring and on top of that my cat lost its 10mm nuts today lol

Thank guys for your comments, I been really busy but I was able to get some things done. I found a torque wrench that gaved up on me like a year ago and saved. So I grinded off the rivet and the foot lever then welded them together. I was also able to finish grinding off the part where the gauges braket bolts up to on the tripple tree. I wasn't happy with the front disk braked and decided to take off and go sucidal. I also picked up yesterday a early ohc CB750 that was on a go kart with the jetted crabs, oil gauge, and kick start for $250 I don't know for what or when but I'm going to use it and I wasn't going to let it go!
