Frickin' road goes way down into a holler,
I have no business being here on anything but a dualsport or dirtbike.
It's 2nd gear to keep speed and stay on what is now a mud road with rocks here and there.
I'm ready to turn around when on the left.....

another half mile maybe, I notice there's nothing but sky
thru the trees.  Then on the right is a pipe gate,
with a hill or knob behind it.

But alas, the gate is closed.

Man, I'm so effin' close.

But if I've learned anything living around here,
it's when people don't want to be bothered,
they don't want to be bothered.

And The Law is that 12 ga, shotgun behind the kitchen door.

I think, maybe park the bike and just hike the 2 hundred yards to the peak and get the shot.
Maybe hit the horn, or yell hello.

But then scenes of the movie "Deliverance" dance thru my head.

No, there's been a few close calls already today,
no need to push it. Tomorrow is another day,
it's getting late, a 3 hour ride is already going on 6 hours.

I pack it in, blast out of that dead end fireroad and head back to pavement.

One last look around, and it's speed racer back to Preston County.
Thinking I kinda know this area now, I take the left at Rt 38, or 32,
and figure I can cut half an hour getting home...........and end up
65 miles South of Morgantown, which is about 30 miles from my house,
putting me 95 miles from home

Another 3 hour ride turns into a 8 hour day,
and I gotta be honest,
kinda glad to see the end of the road on this one.

My compliments on you documenting this trip.  I think I've driven on route 50, but in a car.  Going to have to schedule a trip on my motor and give it a go.

Thanks Luke, and by the way, bike ran great.
Had a full tank when I left, had to hit reserve for the last 10 home.

Seems the more I ride it, the better it runs.

This post was updated on .
I thought Texas was all prairie and dried out buffalo grass.  A few armadillos dodging cadillacs with longhorn skulls on the hood.   But that is really some beautiful country you were riding through.

Going back through your pics.   No wonder it doesn't look like Texas.  It's West Virginia!  DOH!!

This is from another jaunt.
Thought about the thread you put up about bee's when I saw them.

They were still there this time, wondered if there's any honey in those boxes.

I bet there is some honey in there.  Looks like there is plenty of moisture in those woods, so the plants are probably still trying to lure insects for pollination.  Those "Illinois" supers are probably all for extracting.  I may have to go to those some day.  I use all deeps so my equipment is all the same.  But I'll be 60 soon, and deeps of honey are close to 100 lbs each.  Doesn't take too many of those to flat wear an old guy out.
