I have the riding bug, no doubt about it. So, since I'm still sorting out bugs in the old bike, I've decided to get a new one too. That way I can ride and take my time playing with the old one, and keeping it for the really fun rides!
These are the 3 I've decided I'll choose from, I favor the FZ8 because it's got no fairings, but the other two get at least 5 MPG better on the street, and that's what I primarily want the new bike for is reliable, economical back up transportation.
So here are my choices...what do you think? I'm leaning toward the Kawi 600 since the dealer is actually open 7 days a week here, and if I buy I can get accessories at cost at the time of purchase (jacket, gloves, alarm, etc)
I'm saving the down payment and plan to buy in 3-4 months.

I have been seriously coveting a Versys. Those things are awesome! The parallel twin sounds wicked and there is a guy at a local bike dealership that wheelies his everywhere. Seriously,I think his front tire will last forever. His is blacked out and de-fairing'ed. Looks killer stealthy Man,I want a Versys sooooo bad!But alas, they are too pricey for me right now. Have you heard a Versys with aftermarket pipes, yet?

It gets almost 8 MPG better than the ninja 600 but too bad it's a butt ugly bike. That's why it wasn't on my list. lol

My bratty little sister has a Ninja 600R I believe, and she loves it. Also Toolbrat #2 just bought herself a Ninja 650. It is one nice bike. I have ridden it, and it is comfortable. Her husband rides it now more then his Buell 1100.

Check for available tires for the Yamaha... My son had a '93 FZR600: only three tires made to fit it. Period! It was a nice ride, but three fricking tires is all there is to choose from? Are you kidding?...
Those sport bike fairings do very little to protect you. Honestly, I think they are for aesthetic purposes, only. YMMV.
Otherwise, all are nice. Both Kawasaki, and Yamaha, are good, reliable bikes. Only way to know, is to test drive them, though. Cheers!

I think tire selection has gotten better. I have a large number of choices for my fz6.
Mark, I wanted to look at the fz8, it looks awesome IMO but it was hard to find in my area.
I don't know what your dealer offerings are like but if you have an Aprilia dealer, maybe a shiver or a dorsoduro might be an option. The shiver retails new for about 9500 or so, so it is a bit more but it would be a 90 degree v-twin. Just a thought. When I have the money, a Shiver WILL be mine!
The ride IS the adventure. The destination is just to get gas!

Ouch! That's just brutal! I thought you had better taste than that?! I guess all those years watching that crazy Dr Who intro scene has warped you perception JK bud.

You looking' at the same Versys pics I am? The one with the weird plastic half skid plate wannabe panels on the bottom, the frame that looks like its from a gazelle workout machine, the upper....I don't want to call that thing a fairing, hmmm, what would it be called?....ooh, i know, a japanese-anime-robot-head-for-a-headlight holder support system, and the clear piece on top of that, that's not a windscreen, looks like someone stuck half a pair of eyeglasses on the top. Yep, the one Im looking at is definitely butt ugly! lol j/k
I do know how they make them though....
Bahaaaaaa haa haa ha ha ha ha...ok j/k....nah! LOL

Too funny! Who made that pic?!?!
I have to admit, the stock plastics look pretty durn bad. But the one in town that is de-fairing'ed looks great. Then again, most stuff does look good naked...me excluded

I don't know, just found it online. lol I bet every bike can be MADE to look ok, but if I spend money on a NEW bike, I plan on keeping it stock until the warranty is over! :)

Very true.In that case,I dig the rear shock on the top pic. Not crazy about the muffler on the bottom bike, yet the rest of it looks great. It would be a good candidate for a slip on I suppose.
You really cant go wrong with any of them. They all look good. Truth be told,I cant really tell one from the other when I spot one in town. They all kind of blend together.Styling wise. I think paint color is really what sets them off. Also, alot of the new sport bikes have some crazy looking dropped tail light/turn signal assy's. Pretty hideous really.
|
|
I kinda like the little muffler on the Kawi 600, it doesn't hide that NICE double tube rear swing arm.

Oh yes, that s-arm is sweet! The wheels look super light, too. They almost look too weak to hold the bike!

Rode a versys the other day. Fun bike quite torquey on the low end.

Ahhh! You're killing me! True,the Versys ain't a real looker,but I still dig it.
Was it comfy?
Sorry Mark

I may just have to go get that new bike....I was in Costco today and they had a Kawi Z1000 in the store in a floor display. The purpose of the display was to point out that Costco is working with Kawasaki to offer DISCOUNTS on new motorcycles! I called and left a message with their 1-800 number to see how big the discount is. This could be very tempting. :)

Trouble is, you have to buy a pallet of toilet paper, and 10 gallons of salsa before you get the discount. And you have to take it home on your new MC.
