Remember some of the people at the DMV like motorcycles and ride motorcycles.
Treat them with kindness. Just ask them what they want, and give it to them.

Lucky, I agree. But two weeks and six visits later... I'm fresh outta nice.

On the positive side you're not dealing with the NYS DMV, lol

True,I could only imagine about that.Of course,I am no longer dealing with the Roanoke VA DMV either as I have been asked not to return. All i wanted was a simple piece of paper provided by them outlining what they wanted. I have tried to produce a bill of sale 5 times to suit them, but each time they have a complaint with it. All the info is there, but it "Not organized in an acceptable fashion"
"Fine, print me out what you want filled out and I'll do that"
"We dont really provide those sort of forms"
"Well Ma'am,neither do I ,but I am trying"
I told her (second time dealing with this teller) that i was not leaving until I had specific instructions signed by her as to what to bring back. I would then bring those back and deal with only her. Seemed fair to me,but what do I know.
"Sir,I'm gonna have to ask you to step out of line"
"Not until I have those instructions, then gladly I will"
Security guard at least 10 years younger than myself -"Whats your problem son?"
Son?! Me,son? Oh no
"Problem is you need to take your hand off my shouder, please"
I told that young punk security guard not to touch me. That was unnecessary. Apparently Barney ''power trip'' Fife took "get your hand off my shoulder/please" as "squeeze as hard as you can, please". So not cool.
I did not threaten him,I simply warned him" Son,if that is the road you wanna take,I suggest you come back with some help" Not a threat, right? A simple suggestion.
Well, I cant go back there now. Just as well.

I was trying to chill out in the parking lot before I got on the bike to leave when Barney came out to shoo me away. LOL. I told to remember he DOES get off work at some point. You wont always be wearing that spiffy uniform. I think reality sunk in for him.

Here boss, I'm gonna email it to you too, it's a bill of sale template, if they don't accept this then take them to court cause it doesn't get much more proffessional.
I, first and last name of seller of address of seller, hereby certify that I am the lawful owner of this vehicle: year make model and vin# of vehicle and hereby state that the mileage of the vehicle at the time of sale is mileage. I hereby acknowledge the receipt of $dollar amount received by seller in the form of cash, from buyer first and last name, as full payment for the purchase of the said vehicle, which is sold “AS IS”. I do herby grant, sell and transfer full ownership of this vehicle to the buyer. I certify that this vehicle, at the time of sale, is free from all encumbrances, taxes, fees and liens except as those specified on the Title. Buyer accepts full liability for the vehicle, damages, and any third party liability incurred from the vehicle use from the date of sale.

What it is is they don't know what to do with your particular title situation, and they do not want to make a decision because they are afraid of being responsible if it would possibly be the wrong decision. That's why they are bureaucrats.

P.S. If the security guard was not actually a cop. He had no right to touch you. You should have called 911, and had him arrested, for assault! I would have!

Piute- I agree bud. I do know when to stop,it's just hard sometimes. So no worries there
Hellbilly-Thank you sir!
Tools-EXACTLY! On all counts! When I posted my little rant here I was chilling in the DMV parking lot, trying to calm myself before I hopped back on the bike. Barney came out in a little bit and told me I was supposed to be gone. I told him I would leave when I was ready and reminded him that he didn't live at the DMV. He had to leave sometime and that the people he "touched" in this place just might recognize him in a more secluded location and he should be mindful of that. I think it sunk in. Good. He needed to realize that.
1st trip: They said I had to have a VA VIN assigned to it,they could not recognize the current VIN...yeah right. That would've required having the State Police come to my house and inspect the bike, deem it roadworthy...blahblahblah...I just left.Besides, you can't just grind off a VIN and replace it! I mean, you CAN but....you know.
2nd trip: I would have to go through Richmond and have it titled as a Honda. Claimed it was not possible to title a vehicle with the make of "ASSE". Short for assembled. Again, yeah right. You can't just title anything you build as a Honda! It has to BE a Honda.
3rd trip: ASSE is not a problem. You just need a bill of sale. Cool, getting somewhere! Will return with BOS! Apparently,if it is an ASSE vehicle then they cannot establish value per the NADA,so they just need a signed BOS from the seller proving you paid what you claimed you paid. Then they charge sales tax accordingly. Makes sense, not a problem.
4th trip: Bill of sate looks "fabricated". Not legit, try again. Ummmm,of course it's fabricated.I am to supply it myself Granted,it was all hand written. So I get the kind lady to tell me exactly what info is wanted and I shall return.
5th trip: Typed up a BOS at the speed shop. All the info is correct,BUUUUUT, it is not organized correctly on the page. I almost lost my $#!t on this one...be cool...ok how do you want it to appear on the page?? Got it. I shall return again!
6th trip (today): No month indicated on the bill of sale. Poo! I had downloaded a BOS online and it was a fill in the blank deal. Info was ''organized'' as I thought would be pleasing to the Title Nazi's .I thought I had nailed it on this one. I never payed attention that it had no blank for the month. It just read:
I (owner) on this_____day of 20___ hereby.....
Yeah, nice. I shoulda caught that, but I just didn't. So today she tells me it wont cut the mustard cuz the month is not on there. The VIN,sale price and both sig's were there?!?! What difference does the month make?!?! You get your stinking money regardless!!!! It went downhill from there.

If it was Jan, They could charge more tax's then if it were Dec. Also I don't know about VA, but here in Misery after 30 days they start charging penalty's, for each month over up to a maximum of $200.00.

Well, the tax on this one is only sales tax. It will be registered as an antique,so no personal property tax and yearly tag decals to renew. No matter what,I will have to pay the minimum sales tax which is $35+$10 to register for tags. Regardless,I will owe them $45 than I'm done. They just like dragging it out I suppose

Trip 7: unsuccessful. NOW the BOS is unneeded. They are sending me back to Richmond. Completely incompetent.

WTF is their problem now? That is ridiculous, think you need a lawyer to go with you next time, they are just yanking you around... I wouldn't go to that same lady if I were you either, sounds like a real piece of work.

It's all good now.
Trip 8: Walk back in. Go over their head. Leave with tags :)

Nah,its all done now. I got my tags and the bike is titled in MY name,so I'm happy. Now to get the VIN corrected on my insurance policy....both bikes! Ya'll know how these factory VIN start with CB750F (or whatever your model is),well they left that part off of the VIN. The other bike stars with "MICH" then the numbers. They left the MICH off that one too.
Here's one even better (worse?) The VIN on the frame of the chopper starts "MICH" . All the paper work says "M1CH" I'm not even gonna say a thing.
