Loose Headlight

7t1HondaCB
I have a 1971 Honda cb750, my headlight is loose and shakes when I drive it. does someone have a diagram or a few pictures of how the headlight should be put together? I don't want it to break while i'm out driving but also want to make sure I have everything to put it back together like it should be.

You will need to pull the bulb out. the trim ring uses 3 screws usually. Remove these and the bulb comes out. On each mount there is a bolt, the nut inside the shell will just need to be tightened some. You may need to get some rubber washers as you do not tighten the nuts that much. the rubber washers hold things in place and allow you to adjust your beam.

Thanks Re-Run, I'm going to try and find some rubber washers to help stabilze the headlight. do you have an idea where to find them? Or should I just go to my local hardware store and get some run of the mill washers? Just want to make sure I get the correct items to get this back as it should be you know.

Run of the mill is fine. Thicker is better though as they will last longer. The rubber washers will go between the bucket and ears. Make sure the nuts have regular washers on them, I would add lockwashers too. Remember, tight, but not too tight. You need to be able to adjust the beam but it should not move on its own.

Re-Run, it's my headlight lens/bulb that is jumping around. The housing is fine, I'm worried that the glass lens will break as it's moving while I'm riding my bike. Are there some kind of clips or something to keep that in place? The actual housing held by the ears is stationary and doesn't move unless I adjust the screws you are referring to. Let me know and thanks for all the help.

Do you have a h4 bulb or is this a sealed bulb unit? The h4 has a rubber oring to keep it snug.

My unit is not a sealed beam, It's a lense and bulb unit. Not sure if it's H4 as you state. Where could I get a rubber Oring to seal the unit? My unit appears to be missing parts, it only has the outter Ring, lense & reflector & bulb nothing else. I think there sould be other inner parts right?
