Losing my mind with carbs

nilsthenomad
Alright, I hesitate to write this, but am left with no other options but to ask about a carb leak as i can't seem to find a solution in all the answers posted.

So, I had multiple leaking carbs on my '81 750K with gas pouring out the overflows. I went ahead and attacked all the usual symtoms i could find here: replaced the float needles, replaced the bowl gaskets, cleaned them thoroughly and made sure the floats (no adjustable) weren't perforated or sticking. Re-installed and #2 still leaked. Worried that I had installed something wrong I broke down and brought the bike to my great old school Japanese mechanic. He kept it for two days, I went to pick it up and he said he could find nothing wrong with my installation or the carb components. He couldn't get them to leak and said after taking everything apart again he saw nothing wrong even after letting it run for an hour. $100 later I assumed that his dis and re-assembly fixed whatever problem I had caused and was psyched.

In my 3rd hour of riding today, carb #2 started dumping fuel again in rhythmic spurts out of the overflow. I'm at a loss. Is my float just sticking arbitrarily and when no one is looking? Or is it possible that this has something to do with a malfunctioning SOS? I know that it is attached to carb #2. I know this topic has been covered a lot, but feel like I've covered my bases and am still having problems. Just wanna keep from dropping $80/hr with my mechanic again.

I feel your pain We've all been there at least one time or another.

Maybe this is your issue?  http://honda-cb750-s.456789.n3.nabble.com/Chronic-carb-leak-fix-when-all-else-fails-td4032988.html#a4033197

I can't see how it could be related to your SOS unless the leak is actually coming from the SOS, running down the carb and appearing as if it is coming from your carb.

I thought that one of my carbs was pissing gas once and it turned out to be a split fuel line.  It'd be worth checking everything from your gas tank down for leaks (petcock, fuel line, SOS & SOS lines).

Like Shiney said, it's time to start checking other things, like incorrectly made floats, cracked tubes, etc.
