Lost my key!

3banger
Bummer, Dude!

I can't find my only key for my 1980 CB750K. I just googled CB750 lost key and got a site that showed what key blank I have and said some locks have ID's they they can cut one from a book... I think.

I just went down there and there wasn't a number on my ignition. That's where my big bummer is coming from. Is there anywhere else I can look to find the magic number?

Thanks!

If all else fails, you can get a new ignition with keys. They are pretty cheap.

Oh one more thing. Do you know what other years would fit an '80? I found an ignition and tank lock and key set for a 79

Got one cut at my honda dealer

3banger
I took out the lock, the code was stamped on the top (out of sight) of the bezel. I took it down to Carter Motorsports in Granville Island, Vancouver. They took a key from their stock and cut me a new one in 10 minutes for $12 CDN.

I love it when a plan comes together.

good to know you got the key made. make sure you get an extra one just in case this happens again.

when I lost my key, I removed the helmet lock and took it to a local lock smith.

he had a book and looked up the code and had a key for me after doing some research.  Cost me $35.  weeks later, I ended up finding the key.  now I have 3 sets of keys.

seriously, just buy a new ignition switch, pop a few nuts n bolts out, and install a new one for about 30 bucks...

you'll have to figure out a way to get into the gas tank and whatever else uses that key though..

the other option is to buy a blank key off ebay and pay a locksmith a hundred or so to make you a new key...

dealership will charge a ton of money for this... just.. find the blank and have a locksmith do it...

Aside from that, unless you locked the forks before you lost the key, it's REALLY easy to hotwire these things.... you just have to know the wiring diagram and trace a few wires...

if you DID lock the forks, then you can still hotwire it, but.... you'll only be able to ride in tight circles.... which may be fun too.... work on your knee dragging skills on the left side.. or you can do what most of the crotch rocket dudes do around here and ride it on one wheel everywhere you go...
