Metal piece fell in where cam chain is???

I have a DOHC when I was exrating a broken cylinder head bolt I felt in by the chain and there was a flat piece of metal I think it fell in...where does that end I have tried to put a magnet but no luck once I had it bit it dissappeared agin.....could it be in the oil pan?????

I am not very familiar with the internals of the DOHC engine, but I would pull the pan, and try to get it out.
