Must share my happy story

FastCletus
Today I took my CB 750 for a real ride.  Been tinkering on this bike for almost a year.  Bought it on ebay for $300.  Needed some forks, headlight, and some electrics.  After crazy issues with idle and some other odd and end repairs, I took her out for the maiden voyage   She rode awesome.  I only rode about 20 miles, but figured if a major engine issue is going to show it would of shown today within those 20 miles.  NO such thing!!  The bike rode great.  Engine pulls wonderfully, runs very very smooth, and gears change nicely.  Only issue I had was the clutch slipped a little on high acceleration.  No biggie replacing that, figured it probably needed it anyway.
Here is my critiques after riding it
Clubman Bars Suck - ordered clip ons already
Tach is about 4500 @ 55 mph.  Seems high.  I think I will lose some teeth on the rear and get that number lowered.  I need more top end speed than low end torque
Rear shocks are shot - Replace eventually, anyone have any recommendations on brands?
Front Brake - is mushy.  Have a Nissin in mind for replacement

Overall super excited.  Finally have a bike I can take my GF on that wont kill my back and arms like my 998

Sarge does a good amount of touring and speaks highly of the 412 progressive shocks -I will probably be getting myself a pair sooner or later.

Cool story, Bro. Tell it again.

I'm glad your shakedown cruise went well.  You now have a baseline for performance, and have a few more things to work on.  But it's a runner.  Give yourself a pat on the  back.

That is awesome.  Very happy for you.

Ya, front brakes on these are pretty much garbage compared to modern ones.  Stainless steel brake lines help a bit, but they still won't compare to your ducati 998.

If it is really bad, bleeding the line to make sure you don't have air bubbles might help.  Modern progressive shocks seem to be a common upgrade for these bikes (both DOHC and SOHC).  I haven't bit the bullet yet, but many on this forum have.  I think quality will be very dependent on what price you want to pay although  I've heard even the cheapest progressive shocks (front & rear) are a major upgrade.

Are you planning on selling those clubmans?  I just ordered a pair of drag bars, but I was eyeing up clubmans as well...
