Temp depends on the powder you are using.Different powder have to cook longer, too. The shortest/coolest powders cook at 350 for 15 minutes. The hottest I have seen is 425 and up to 30 minutes.

If you do get it done BE SURE you ask about out-gassing the aluminum. If they dont the coating can pimple up on you.

Have some progress to report. I finished tearing the engine down, and it was worse then I thought. It took an 8lb sledge to get the pistons out of the cylinders. Bent a few rods getting them out. I guess I should have just went ahead, and split the cases, and disconnected the rods from the crank.

I had to use pullers to remove the clutch, and clutch basket.

The rest was just a mess.

I cleaned, and bead blasted, or soda blasted all the parts. Then we had everything powder coated gloss black. Even the engine cases.

Now to put it all back together.

Tools, I noticed an oil cooler adapter plate.  It looks like it came off of a CB650?  Is it necessary with the higher compression/oversized pistons, or just something your buddy wanted?  Inquiring minds want to know.  I am also surprised that you apparently powder-coated the adapter plate entirely -- an unusual move, but not a concern, I am just curious about it.  Thanks.  Cheers!

I believe it came off a CB 900. There are three reasons that it is entirely powder coated. First the powder coat is very smooth, and oil will flow across it better. Second the black surface will transmit heat faster, so it will provide some cooling effect. Third we were too lazy, and cheap to mask the darned thing off.

The cylinder, and head are acrylic enamel automotive paint. It is the same color as the tank, and side covers.
