You have to get within 5 feet to see the flaws, It has plenty, but it looks GOOD for it's age! :)

That's why it doesn't even bother me that I have to get into the carbs, some wiring, and check out why the speedo stopped. (it's all banged up anyway, so I want new gauges!)

Took some pics of a few things…..
My electricals don't look too bad, except for all the wires that look burned on the ends…yep, I'm definitely getting a new harness! There's a cobweb in there. lol



My two controls are different. I like this style master cylinder. Not sure If I'll end up with an ugly plastic
reservoir if I do the dual disc conversion.



My corroded to heck "wrecked-ifier".



That little one inch long spot of surface rust is the ONLY rust inside the tank, it's all shiny new metal in there! Gas tank cap seal is all cracked though.

Those controls are correct, for your bike. Later models did away with the headlight on/off switch. That master will work with duel discs if, you use braided stainless steel lines. If, you look uo "Buddies POW/MIA bike" in the members builds, you will see how I did a duel disc conversion.

I just thought it was weird that one was black and the other was silver. Oh, yeah, in that pic the left one looks the same as the right because of the flash…but it's actually black.

p.s. I saw that thread. It looks really doable. I had one guy recommend an M/C off an old Goldwing for the extra volume. I think i'd only need that if I did a rear disc conversion too.

Polish them and then send them to my buddy.He has a powder coat that is called "black chrome".It looks amazing.I'm sure anyone who PC's can do it,too.But you gotta push your buddies business when you can,you know.

Update: Spent a half day at the Tax Collectors office and now have a registration, the title will be here in about 10 days, and I have a nice shiny blue antique motorcycle tag! Woo-hoo!

Also I ordered my new wiring harness, rectifier and voltage regulator, and carb kits.

I'm going to change the oil, plugs, and empty the gas tank and take apart the petcock to clean the reusable screen filter that's hopefully still in it. (saw this in the factory manual you guys posted…thanks!)

Where's a good place to put the extra inline filters? This old bike has a petcock with TWO outlets, so i have two lines to put them on if I add extra filters. I guess the only real place to put them is right where those lines come out…there's only another 8-12 inches of line before it hits the carbs. Maybe I'll just stick with the petcock filter since my tank is so clean….I have no worries about rust in there! :)

I was checking the bike over and realized the tires are so new, they still have those little rubber spikes all over them (except for the middle, where obviously only a few test rides would scrub them off) I wonder if the tubes are/were new also?

I returned the 6 gang ATO fuse holder that I posted in another thread…it's nearly 3 times the size of the OEM holder and without moving stuff around, there's no room. (later I will be moving stuff around as I upgrade the parts under that side cover to modern electronic versions of each piece, which are hopefully smaller!)

I also have to check out why the speedo doesn't work. When I get time, I'm going to check out the cable, the drive gear (does it have one?) and the speedo itself. Not a big deal if it's broken, I want new ones anyway since the cases on these are beat to heck.

As long as it doesn't impact fuel flow, you can't have too much filtration in the fuel system. I put one in line with the feed for the carb assembly.

Your petcock has two outlets?  My original one did as well.  Found out later, it wasn't the original one.  It could have advantages if you need to drain the tank, but on mine the fuel line to the carbs took a right angle turn.  I got a correct one off of EBay, that has the carb line already at right angles, and that worked much better. Search around for one of my posts and the word petcock.  I think I put some pictures up about my situation.

Just run a little Seafoam from time to time.  About an ounce per gallon of gas, and you minimize the rust factor on the tank.  Keep it as full as possible all the time.

There should be a speedometer diagnosis section in the FSM.  It gets its feed from the front wheel.  Should be pretty easy to figure it out.  Let us know if you need more help.

Yep, two outlets, and it's correct and original. There's a replacement available if mine goes bad…



Fits '69-'74…photo taken from an ebay listing…but lots of places sell it.
The carbs on my bike have the two feed inlets that face the rear of the bike, so the lines make a nice smooth drop and gradual turn up into the carbs. Pointing down is better for my stock set up.

This IS fun. :)

(I'm already saying "screw it" with renovating my second bathroom…that money is going into the bike!)
